Clearview. Love it - we never have to clean the glass.

Fayrazzled · 21/01/2018 20:24

Charnwood- love it.

Does anyone have a firebelly log burner - I like the modern look, but heard mixed reviews?

Useful thread OP :)

The first thing I did when I moved into my house was get rid of the log burner. I think they’re ugly and ineffective. And it’s not an opinion I personally share, but they are well known for being “common” so I’d avoid getting one if you care about that sort of thing.

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 06:29

Ha ha ha! Don't move to this part of the country then. I live in a " posh" village( according to people in the town it isn't really) and most people have one or an AGA. We have no gas here. We had a Rayburn as well originally no. 2.
I don't care about that sort of thing I have had wood burners / multi fuel for over forty years. Lived in a house with an AGA before that.

Bouncy dog I love your fireplace and your picture above.
I love the fact people are posting pics don't they all look cosy.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 22/01/2018 07:29

Grin not in the slightest bit bothered about the fact that someone might think me ‘’common’

Don’t come to the algarve either, virtually all houses and apartments have log burners here, as there is no piped gas, but then the whole of the algarve was described as ‘trashy’ on another thread so maybe they fit right in here Grin

We had a DiLusso installed before Christmas. I love it! It is easy to light, burns for hours with one or two logs and heats our large living room so well we have to keep the doors open. It doesn’t heat the whole house or the water but the heat does permeate out of the living room IYSWIM. I wish I had a picture of it lit but as wood burners are so common the town has literally run out of logs Grin (I’m told they will be back in stock today.)
Despite the Italian sounding name they are made in Cornwall and that sort of thing is important to me.

They are common as in every house has one (not quite obviously) But I like mine. And if we moved to a house without one I’d put one in. Cleaner and more efficient than an open fire which I’d have if I couldn’t have a woodburner....

Have posh friends who’ve had them for years and years and years!

lostinblankers · 22/01/2018 08:00

I want one in case electric or gas goes down. I'm probably really common Grin.

olliegarchy99 · 22/01/2018 08:00

Clearview - excellent stove. I had one in my previous cottage so replaced the aged jotul stove (could not see the flames) when I moved here Smile

Bluntness100 · 22/01/2018 08:07

We have the Charnwood Island 11 in charcoal downstairs and a black stovax upstairs, both fab.

Totally loving the fact someone said they are "common".yup like radiators and cookers. Totally common, imagine wanting to heat your house. Such low lifes. 🤣

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 22/01/2018 08:17

I have a house full of common items like a dishwasher and microwave, I even have a ceiling fan in the bedroom Shock. My stove fits right in.

whiskyowl · 22/01/2018 08:35

"they are well known for being “common”"

Hyacinth, is that you?

OP: yes, they do pump out the heat. You have to get the hang of using them, though. They're not supposed to be run on a kind of fierce blaze continually with big yellow flames leaping everywhree - you get them up to warp speed like that, then shut the air inlet down a bit so you get a warm glow with tiny flames that burns very hot and very efficiently. The wood you use really matters- you need to make sure the moisture content isn't too high or you don't get nearly such a good heat output and the burn can be quite dirty. Well-seasoned hardwood is excellent, and saves the additional carbon cost of kiln drying.

namechange2222 · 22/01/2018 08:35

Clearview Vision 500. Multistove which I'm thrilled with having only been able to burn logs on my previous one.
I did actually go up a heat size from what was first recommended as always have the sitting room door open and it heats the whole cottage. It's been in situ for a couple of years now and lit almost every day of the year. Including installation cost around £3000. I've just bought a top fan and think that also makes a difference. I've had log burners for ten years and would never live in a house without one, common or not!

Me too. I've even got a vacuum cleaner. #livinglikecommonpeople..Grin

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 22/01/2018 10:18

Aga Ludlow here. Easy to light, throws off lots of heat ... as they all do, I should imagine!

beachcomber243 · 22/01/2018 19:43

Clearview Pioneer multi fuel. Yes, I'd recommend it, I love it.

Andromeida29 · 23/01/2018 00:53

We have the same @munchyseeds and we love it! Also going to have this one shortly in another room:

Common girl up the road bought a Clearview to put in her architect designed new house. She loves it. Her mum used to be my best friend 😢 and always wanted to build a bungalow on that piece of land (theirs) but it wasn't to be. Her daughter kept the land and built a beautiful house on it and sister had the lovely farmhouse. She isn't common she has an open fire and a very large AGA. Both do. Are AGA's common too? I'm off to start a thread about theses so I want to know!

OP I bet you didn't realise you thread would get so many posts and become VERY amusing. Isn't there a song about Common People? Off to google the lyrics to see if they mention wood burners and multi fuel stoves😁

RubyLennoxExists · 23/01/2018 09:05

Clear view Pioneer - yes,
recommend

StopCallingMeShirley · 23/01/2018 09:09

Charnwood Island 1.

Heats the whole downstairs supported by an Aga. Because of the way our house is laid out, it does a pretty good job of warming kid's bedrooms upstairs too.
