My kitchen is here! Well half of it. Another van should be here soon. It won’t be installed until Monday but it is here!

whiskyowl · 19/01/2018 14:43

Oh dust that's wonderful! Tell us what you're having, again?

MrsBlondie · 19/01/2018 14:53

Oh how wonderful dustandrubble. Cannot wait for this stage!

Whiskyowl hope you like your floor today

DustandRubble · 19/01/2018 14:55

Grey units. Long strip on wall with sink, then an island with hob - no seating at it. Walnut worktop on the island, pale granite on the sink area and on a shelf in the island. Wine fridge, two ovens, lots of drawers rather than cupboards, pull out larder.

DustandRubble · 19/01/2018 15:02

This is one of the pics. It’s not huge like some of the kitchens here, but it should use space well. And there is a good bit of space between the island & back units which you can’t tell from here. The hob faces out into the garden.

Ahhhh, I thought you were the cool kitchen with the bright orange, but I didn't want to say that in case I had got it wrong! (I am easily confused). I can't wait to see how it turns out, I think it's going to be really stunning. Also, love the amount of space you have for wine in the kitchen, a woman after my own heart! Gin Wine Grin

On a more serious note, that island looks really practical!

I daren't go and look at the floor yet. Blush

DustandRubble · 19/01/2018 15:10

I hope the island is practical! My big thing was I didn’t want an island that just became a dumping ground for crap. And we a a household who like to put stuff away “in a minute”. The island now really is the main work surface so we will need to keep it clear. And because the room isn’t big and the dining table is so close we concluded we didn’t need seats.

whiskyowl · 19/01/2018 15:12

Good call on the seating - I've seen lots of islands where it's never used for similar reasons. I think a dining table close by works really well!

theredjellybean · 19/01/2018 15:49

Dust.. I am agonising over an island at moment as means we cannot have table in kitchen aswell... But I really need the extra cupboards. I will try to post some drawings later to see what you all advise

DustandRubble · 19/01/2018 16:43

Personally I would usually rather have a table than an island. Will you have a dining table elsewhere though, and will you eat at it? But I really hate sitting on stools so I don’t like sitting at islands anyway,

Believeitornot · 19/01/2018 17:30

Our island has become a dumping ground but that’s because we haven’t sorted all storage in the room out. We also have a dining table close by. The DCs like the island but I reckon we could have done without seating at it.

Just had final invoice from the builder. Another £1k. I’m slightly cross because he’s charging us for little extras which are a bit cheeky. But he is professional enough so I am happy to “discuss”

Baxdream · 19/01/2018 17:48

We have an island with two seats. We use the island a lot but we don't have a dining table yet (it's due in about 5 weeks as we're having it made).
I totally get it being a dump zone. We do put our keys on it 😂

Ooh whisky let us know how the flooring looks

DustandRubble · 19/01/2018 17:56

Oh yes, let us know what the floor looks like whisky.

Well pretty much all the kitchen is here, and possibly a bit extra. We think we have some extra units - the kitchen people will come on Monday to double check and the builders will start fitting it.

It’s looking darker than I had remembered but I like it. Pic of a panel attached.

That's gorgeous! Getting the kitchen is so exciting!

Whattodowithaminute · 19/01/2018 21:24

Really great progress and really motivating too. We have finally received a formal quote from our builder and met him this week, building control notice should be submitted on Monday and then we should break ground next week! Builder has said that we can order our kitchen (to take advantage of the sale) and have spent the day perusing the kitchen planner.

whiskyowl · 20/01/2018 08:47

dust - I like the colour a lot! There are a lot of dove greys out there at the moment, and I think they might date quite a lot faster than mid-greys like yours.

bax - I'm thinking of getting a dining table made too! (I made a thread about how I couldn't find a decent one, and a number of people suggested this). How did you go about it?

believe - that is a bit cheeky, I hope you can sort him out!! I am pushing my builder for a bill, because he's also doing tons of little jobs that are on top of the initial quote. He's a joiner at heart, and he just loves doing cupboards and boxing in pipes!! But I need to get a proper total from him so we are square. He hates talking about money or paperwork!

whiskyowl · 20/01/2018 08:53

Also, I need to rave to someone about how much I love my new Franke pull-out tap in the utility. I have a shiny one in there, and I keep going downstairs just to play with it. I have also found that the pull-out nozzle is excellent for soaking DH if he is being recalcitrant about drying up Grin

I'm having the same tap, but in silksteel, in the kitchen so it's a good job I love it.

DustandRubble · 20/01/2018 09:18

I would be lying if I didn’t say I was hoping to soak a bystander with my pullout tap when it goes in whisky. Grin

I do worry that grey kitchens will be the avocado bathroom suites of the future, I look forward to someone ripping it out in horror when we sell up. I like the colour and actually I think I am quite pleased it is darker than I remembered. I don’t want to look wishy washy.

Baxdream · 20/01/2018 09:54

Whisky we were adamant we wanted a round table that seats 8. It was impossible to find!
We've ordered ours with konk it looks amazing and customer service is fabulous (you get an email every week or so)

Tika77 · 20/01/2018 16:17

Whattodo How exciting!

Bax I love your grey walls too!

Dust: Everything will be outdated in 20 years I'm sure.

I'm having another meltdown. Over all the finishes we have decided, over the ones we haven't yet, I'm pretty convinced I messed up the kitchen plan etc.

Tatlerer · 20/01/2018 21:33

Hello lovely ladies.

We've moved in. We're sitting in front of a roaring fire. I'm slightly drunk on Rioja.

We've spotted lots of snagging, but omg there's so much to love. And I'm HOME. HOME I tell you!

Sushiqueen · 21/01/2018 05:59

We are finally all done.

After giving up on the wood floor due to the costs!!, the decorating was finished about 10 days ago. Carpet has now been laid. The bliss of not walking on dusty concrete floors anymore. The dog is now joining us in the room again - she hated the bare dusty floors Grin

Now it is just a case of finishing sorting the room out. The carpet pile is thicker than we realised so everything leaves marks in it. So a large rug is now on order for the dining table and chairs to sit on!

Luckily they left us some extra carpet so the new sofa bed is currently sitting on that until it gets moved into position. Had to work out where to position it to hide the slight damage on that - more hassle.

Sushiqueen · 21/01/2018 06:01

MrsBlondie I would wait to do your upstairs work. We had a big crack all away along our bedroom wall as a result of the steels going in below. It appeared a couple of days after once it had all settled.
Good excuse for me to get the bedroom decorated now Smile

Sushiqueen · 21/01/2018 06:03

Tatlerer enjoy! It is a lovely feeling once you actually get there.

whiskyowl · 21/01/2018 08:40

tatlerer - YAY!! Brilliant! Roast a chestnut for me while you're there! Grin I would be lying if I didn't say I was spitting with envy, but you so deserve this.

sushi - it sounds LOVELY! The floors are the thing I have hated the most. We have cardboard and ply protecting our dining room floor, with an extra covering of dust. It's absolutely horrible and totally uncleanable. There's nothing like your feet sinking into a soft carpet, is there? It may stop marking after a bit - my bedroom one did.

tika - I am sure you shared your kitchen plan with us? And it looked lovely! I know what you mean about those nerves. It's exhausting carrying that much anxiety!!

bax - I've never heard of Konk. Their stuff is gorgeous!! I am sitting on my hands trying not to order as it wouldn't be sensible - I need a patio doing first!!

I got in a temper yesterday about how generally shit everything is, and how I'm having to do 10 loads of washing in 2 days at the weekend with a temporary washing machine. So I unwrapped my new tumble dryer, pushed it to the middle of the kitchen floor (!), plugged it in and turned it on. What a revelation. Washing now takes so little time and effort. I know it's not sensible because it's so lovely and shiny and new and I don't want it ruined BUT I really need the extra help right now, and not to have the one room that isn't affected by building work full of two airers of washing.
