Best place to buy bathroom fixtures please

We are planning to change our downstairs toliet and need a new sink and toilet. Im probably being really silly but I don't know where to start!
I've looked online at Victoria plumb, is this the cheapest way to buy fixtures? Should I just go to b&q? I know there are small specialist bathroom shops but they seem really expensive and we have a tight budget.
Any recommendations on where you have purchased toilets/sinks from would be welcomed. Thanks

Local plumbers merchants, trust me they will source you better quality for less than you'd probably get at the likes of b&q etc.

www.plumbworld.co.uk is cheap and has good reviews. Victoriaplum is also cheap, but I've stayed clear of them due to the amount of negative reviews.

I got my stuff from victoria plumb and had no issues at the time. Delivery was complete, on time and I think it looks much nicer than the £ I paid.

I did have an issue with a tab a bit later - but they sent me a new one no drama.

Sounds like the quality is inconsistent so you could be lucky or you might not be. I guess I was lucky.

I went to a small bathroom supplier today but it's hard when I don't really know what I'm asking for atm.

Best advice I can give you regarding the toilet is to try them out in in a showroom. You know I mean just to sit on it of course!

Believe me not all toilets are the same. Also watch out for unusually shaped toilet lids. They can be expensive to replace if you need to.

Once you've chosen which one then check out prices online or at places like Plumb Centre or local plumbing merchant.

You dont need to get the matching basin either. I got a different basin as I needed it to be smaller than standard and also wanted it to be deeper.

The small plumbers merchants don't have showrooms only a counter but they have a range of bathroom fittings brochures that you can order from and they give you a discount on the brochure list prices. So prices can compare with on line prices.
