Don’t worry whatashower ours is for the utility room too so mainly for bathing the dog! It’s a bargain x

whiskyowl · 31/10/2017 20:49

shower- imitation truly is the sincerest form of flattery. It's lovely!! I'm sure everyone will adore it.

Glorious - I'm using the alitherm range by smart systems. I'm having loads of glazing, including single and double sliding doors so I know it meets regs. They aren't too expensive either!!

Tatlerer · 31/10/2017 21:50

whatashower that rather fetching tap has just been purchased for our utility room! Thank you for the recommendation!

glorious · 31/10/2017 22:23

whisky thanks. I have had a look at their website but I can't find a plain aluminium single door, only composite ones. I'm probably being dense so I'll have another go in the morning.

whiskyowl · 01/11/2017 07:54

glorious - I will double check this morning with the builder - I'm getting a very plain alu door but I can't find a picture of it on the website either!

They basically manufacture everything bespoke so you can have whatever. But you've got me wondering now, so I will chase this up and hopefully get back to you later on!

glorious · 01/11/2017 10:08

Oh thanks whisky, that'd be great. I'm sure it's absolutely fine! I've found that window and door companies in general tend to have quite minimal information online so it's probably just that Smile

Whatthefoxgoingon · 01/11/2017 13:53

Is it weird that I don’t need a tap but would still like to buy the MN collective tap?

Grin
NamedyChangedy · 01/11/2017 14:25

I'm also sorry to have missed out on the tap!

I've just run into our next hiccup. The floors arrived and they look absolutely beautiful. However, builder is very miffed that it's herringbone rather than straight planks as they'll take much longer to lay (and therefore cost more in labour).

I'm also miffed - not with him, but with our PM who has known all along that we're having parquet, and who I sent links & pictures to weeks ago - he just hadn't passed on the information.

I've said if it helps us get back on schedule I could spend a weekend laying most of it (apart from the edges / corners which would need cutting). It's the stuff you click in, no glue or anything and I'm pretty confident I could do it, but am I deluded??

Whatthefoxgoingon · 01/11/2017 14:33

Our parquet was laid by a specialist who cut and laid as he went, so all the joins were perfect. Not all the planks were exactly the same width to the millimetre, so he grumbled a lot!

I’m sure you could lay it, but who will do the cutting? Could you help lay in conjunction with the fitter so to speed him along?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 01/11/2017 14:34

PM needs a telling off for this slip up, parquet takes much longer to lay than planks!

Believeitornot · 01/11/2017 15:42

@NamedyChangedy

I wouldn’t lay that floor because all it takes is a few mms out and then next thing you know it’s running diagonally 🙈

So had my text to confirm that our kitchen is coming next Friday Shock

Am a bit 😬 as it includes the utility units and we don’t have anywhere to put it. Will need to clear loads of space in the garage 😬

Am also a bit 😬 as the worktops are being templated the following week so the builder better bloody have the kitchen in by then

Believeitornot · 01/11/2017 15:43

Oh and did I mention that our sliding doors are being fitted tomorrow Grin

Quite excited by this.

NamedyChangedy · 01/11/2017 16:40

Believe you might be right about the scope for error - having seen the builders test a couple of strips, there does seem to be a knack to getting them mm perfect. He had to apply some brute force on a couple to get them to line up exactly, and I wouldn't want to damage the wood trying.

That's exciting re. your doors, you'll have a structurally sound house again! You're a day ahead of us, as ours are being fitted on Friday. But with this floor hiccup it's not likely we'll catch up with you now! Sad

whatthefox, I'm hoping there wouldn't be much cutting as I'm not sure the plank edges would fit together properly if they were cut (sorry, don't know all the flooring terminology but I might have to learn quickly!) This is the stuff I ordered - it all looked so straightforward on the site.

monkeyfacegrace · 01/11/2017 17:06

I like this chat at the moment.

Not much bricks and mortar, just kitchens and taps!

I need some advice. This corner is quite dark. I have a plug socket down there. What do I do to make beautiful lighting? Toddler table is going. I can't decide between lamp on the drinks unit or floor lamp to the side? Or something else?

The lamp you can see is a reflection from another corner BTW, it's not in the cabinet! And I have new ceiling pendants coming next week (there's 3 in the room!)

OP posts:
Believeitornot · 01/11/2017 17:14

@NamedyChangedy our floor is going down after the kitchen. Builder said something about the wood floor might move when settling (which could ruin our worktop if it does). So who knows you might catch up!

@monkeyfacegrace

A tall floor lamp with a reading one half way? Not sure! What do you need the light for? Mood or reading? I prefer floor lamps and maybe something which could be dimmed?

DustandRubble · 01/11/2017 19:46

God the dust! Today is the first time I have really felt defeated by the whole thing. They took the ceiling down in the dining room and as much as they tried to seal it off, it didn’t really work. Hopefully that was the worst of it as it is all down now and we are mostly about building rather than destroying after that.

TeamRick · 01/11/2017 19:53

I'd go with a floor lamp too Monkey I think!

Looks like a lovely cosy room!

TeamRick · 01/11/2017 20:20

my plasterers today said they want to take the original ceiling down & start from scratch do DH text twatchops to ask that he give us some notice if this is happening so we can move everything!

‘Tumbleweed! ‘

Fourmagpies · 01/11/2017 20:34

We have dust everywhere too today. The builders started on taking the kitchen wall down. Lots of "so why is that like that?!". Previous owners did a lot of stuff themselves and not particularly well.

I think a floor lamp would look great too monkey We usually have one in each room. I bought a new one in the Next sale in preparation!

Our roof was finished today and the flat roof on the single storey is progressing. It’s so exciting but it will be dust everywhere from Friday 😱

Very nice progress Bax!

monkeyfacegrace · 02/11/2017 05:41

Bloody he'll Bax, your builders are on fire! And what a monstrous extension! It's going to be amazing!

OP posts:
Baxdream · 02/11/2017 06:53

Thanks! Our builder has only just set his company up recently so he is putting his heart and soul into ours.
We’re on week 9 now. We generally have about 5 men on site a day 😱
Windows are going in today and I think we have the electrician

DustandRubble · 02/11/2017 08:05

That is super fast work! Amazing.
