New house flooring dilemma - help please leads into carpet lounge and wooden Hall flooring

We are about to move into a house that has a large hallway with black slate flooring that leads (to the right) to a carpeted lounge. But straight ahead with glazed doors to a wooden floor, then a kitchen with black slate again. We have a dog. The mismatch is weird and I'm not keen on the black slate. I don't think a carpet in the entrance hall would be a great idea either though. Should we change to wood to match the room straight ahead? Will lifting the black slate be a nightmare in order to lay the wood? Thanks!

I'd live in the place for a while first and then decide. Sometimes things have been done for a reason which isn't apparent until you live in a house.
