Movers arrive tomorrow morning...what do we need to do today?!

I've got

• Walk dog
• Kids need to put bits of toys together (all knights with the castle etc.)
• Everyone packs a bag for a week (we won't be in new house til Friday morning) - clothes, toiletries
• Eat as much out of the fridge/freezer as possible
• pack a box of stuff we need immediately: Kettle, coffee, tea, one set of knives/forks/spoons/plates/mugs/dog food/one saucepan/poo bags
• make a bonfire for confidential waste
• walk round garden and cry (we are in our dream home but having to move for work. I'm not dealing especially well with it).
• Put aside stuff I'm driving down rather than going with movers - jewellery/key papers/dog equipment/
• Do a run to charity shop

Have already done mail redirection/telephone/utilities

Anything I need to add to list?

On a practical level - just make sure you have paperwork to hand

I'm guessing you have packers coming. I've been told that some firms who do this won't do lofts / sheds though as standard, so be sure you empty the loft / any sheds today.

I've also been told for the stuff you need immediately it can be worth leaving out a black marker to labels boxes, so you don't have to open the boxes to know what is in them and can prioritise what needs to be unpacked. Also I've been told a tape measure can be really helpful so you can check measurements of furniture etc (to avoid dragging a wardrobe upstairs only to find the it doesn't fit properly etc).

I'm sorry though that you've got to make the move when you don't really want to.

Looking at your list the only thing I can add is do you have dog food to take with you?

I am moving on Thursday all being well. For some reason I thought I would pack myself. Never again.

I don't even like my current house but there are a lot of mainly good memories here and I've been much more emotional than I thought I'd be. Been sobbing today. So it must be rubbish if you don't really want to go.

Thank you so much everyone! Yes we have packers, they spent yesterday and today packing, and are coming tomorrow to load vans (we have loads of stuff). Love the black marker idea, last time we moved I kept opening boxes and finding they were full of useless crap rather than the saucepan/clothes/toys I wanted.

We ended up doing a ceremony in the garden on sunday evening where we all buried something meaningful (under a tree at the back of the garden so I hope unlikely to be found by new owners). It helped - a bit.

Got to focus on being closer to jobs/good schools and that we'll be able to create another dream house in due course.
