In desperate need of a new front door - which one to choose??

I have whittled it down to 2 and I can't decide. They are very different.

Door 1 - Composite door dark grey, 4 small square panels going down the middle, letterbox near the floor and a solid rod door handle going down the side (its not the whole length of door, poss 2/3rds).

Door 2 - Composite door red or maybe green, 2 rectangle panels in the top half of the door with a little pattern in each rectangle. Usual door handle, knocker etc....

My hall only has natural light from the front door so I am concerned about losing light. My door that I currently have is very much like door 2. I have blocked up one of the panels to see how much light I would lose if I went with option 1 - it does take away a little light but not as much as I thought it would.

I live in a house that is about 25 years old.

Opinions please?

I like the sound of 1 most BUT it's very fashionable right now, number 2 would be a more classic look so would probably still look ok in 10 years while door 1 could look very dated, so if you're living there long term I'd pick a more classic look, if you're moving in the next 5 years I'd pick 1.

If you have any empathy for your postie, don't pick a door with the letterbox right st the bottom. Smile

Heratnumber7 - that thought did go through my mind!

We've got a red composite door with two rectangular panels and I love it. So I would say number two

Does cost come into it? I'm looking at new doors - I will go the classic route. But door and sidelight are looking like £1600 fitted (rockdoor estimate). Ouch!

nibblingfingernails · 09/08/2017 14:27

The price difference is about £100. Door 1 being the dearer.

I had a paper round once - I hated doors with low letter boxes and sometimes "forgot" to deliver to them Blush

Still struggling with decision, my head says one thing and my heart says another! Argh!!

Red one gets my vote Smile

nibblingfingernails · 11/08/2017 01:42

I was so sure when the guy came round that I would go for the grey one, but since he visited I am swaying more to the red one, mainly due to the lighting and having no other natural light.

Red one!

Stillamum3 · 11/08/2017 02:54

Red one - grey will not let in any extra light

placemark123 · 11/08/2017 08:09

Red one definitely!

incogKNEEto · 11/08/2017 08:36

Red one, your postie will thank you too!

PocketNiffler · 11/08/2017 08:53

I dont like the pattern in the red one. My friend has one like that but no pattern, just frosted. It looks great and lets light in. (Outside is navy blue).
