How to make a house look older than it is

Any tips on how to add 'period' features or give a house more charm/character?

I think our house post-war, mid-century - not hideous at all but could do with more character.

I've installed coving. I've also bought furniture from The Dormy House. The quality is fab and designs are classic, as well as accommodating.

Thank you for the coving justification!

I never said dado rails fgs! Grin Confused I didn't want a mock period interior as that looks kitsch. I wanted some gentle features, e.g a climbing plant or wooden flooring. Goodness me!

Definitely good doors.

You did specifically ask how to make a house look older than it is! :-)

Indeed, HipsterHunter Maybe the OP didn't expect the response she got ... but she did ask how to add 'period' features or give a house more charm/character?

And we answered: you can't fake it. Work with what you've got. Actually post-War modern has a particular style, and there's a lot of the "retro" furniture about which would suit - teak, sleek, stylish. Not gussied up to be what it isn't ...

^ go for some cool seats like this. Some co-ordinating lighting and pictures would be good.

@BonjourMeDarlin you are NOT helping me save money with that link!!!!!

OMG beautiful furniture. Sadly, not for my current house (Georgian townhouse) but for a standard mid-century house, they'd add far more class than fake cornices.

Leaking roof

WeyHay · 18/07/2017 22:16

Yes, ime, that'll do it too! Shock Grin
