I'm staying in a holiday let with a bodged hob surround made of wood. Is this safe?

It's certainly unique.

I think it must've been deeper than the original so they've joined bits of wood together & varnished the lot.

It's a halogen hob.

Does not sound attractive but a halogen hob could be set into a wooden work surface so probably not a hazard. Were there no pictures of the kitchen when you booked. Some people are just cheap skates.

It was an induction one before.
