Worrying we won't sell quirky property :( buyer 's mortgage refused

Our house is set just back from the high street of a thriving and very popular town.

It's accessed by a shared passageway that runs underneath a building and is surrounded by a variety of shops and businesses. We know it's not to everyone's taste, but those who like it REALLY like it. Almost everyone who visits remarks on how suprisingly quiet it is considering the central location.

We have re mortgaged it 3 times with different lenders in the time we have owned it, without a sniff of an issue.

We are now selling, and have an onward purchase secured. We were gutted to find out today that our buyers mortgage was outright refused by their bank. Apparently the surveyor refused to even value our property, saying that the amount of commercial properties around us made it undesirable.
The estate agent seems unruffled, and said that the buyer has already gone to a different lender. We just need to await the outcome of this.

Should we be panicking?

Only if you enjoy panicking.

This is not fun for you, but you've found 3 mortgage lenders who are OK with it, so panicking seems premature.
Have you tried giving your buyers the names of who was happy to give you mortgage on it?

Thank you dancing Smile. Yes we have now told them who we most recently mortgaged with. Hopefully this might help. Unfortunately we only found this out today, although I think the saga has been going on for a couple of weeks.

Clearly it is desirable as they want to buy it.
Our surveyor pointed out the fact our new house to be backs onto a main road means it's less desirable - fine, but there are 10 houses the same and the size of the garden negates that as they're bigger than the rest in this popular area. The main road is long and has hundreds of properties running up either side and all sell very quickly. To get the same property elsewhere would be about 50-100k more so surely, like yours, the price reflects that.

Sounds like your buyers aren't put off so fingers crossed.
