We are thinking about putting our house on the market. We have had it for 5 years and have been doing it up bit by bit over the years including a loft extension, new Windows, kitchen, bathroom, garden relandscaped, everything. We did all the interior decorating ourselves including woodwork.
The decorating needs touching up in high traffic areas and the woodwork has never been perfect, and the painted pebble dash could do with a repaint, so I had a decorator give me a quote last week. It was eye watering, around 5.7k for some (not all) internal areas and external painting front and back and he included the front door and front fences.
I am sure he is great at what he does but I am not sure if we really need to go as far as this. The houses in this area usually sell quite quickly anyway, as we are close to the station, close to the high street and in catchment for two outstanding schools.
what do others do, do you ensure your house looks absolutely pristine and brand new? I was going to de clutter and generally make the house look nice, everyone is always commenting how nice our house is, but I am reluctant to spend a good part of my savings on an expensive decorator! We are still considering getting the exterior work done though for first impressions.
Decorator was very quick to point out imperfections, like the cracks in the paint and the imperfect woodwork of the original 1920s doors and is now hassling me to give him the job...
