Blinds - how much did yours cost? I've been quoted £3000 for 7 windows

I have a Victorian Terraced house and just got a quote for 7 blinds (2 bay windows). £3000 for measuring, fitting, fixtures etc. Is that alot? They aren't roller blinds as apparently they can't be fitted on my windows?

If that is a lot where did you go? I am pretty inept at measuring and DIY so need someone to do this for me!

(The blind man told me that curtains and wooden shutters would be even more expensive).

Thanks!

Is it one of the big companies ,if it is very a quote from a smaller local one.

endofthelinefinally · 04/06/2017 12:36

That does sound a lot.
I recently paid around a thousand for 6 big roller blinds last year. Including measuring and fitting.

TheGoodWife16 · 04/06/2017 12:52

We've had 15 blinds fitted throughout over the last 3 years - a variety of wooden vertical, blackout roller, Venetian, perfect fit and roman.

The total cost for all 14 was approximately £1960 from a local firm.

I'd obtain a further quote to compare with.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/06/2017 12:56

If it is one of the big firms they work like double glazing companies and will knock loads off if you have it make noises about getting other quotes.

TheGoodWife16 · 04/06/2017 12:58

Actually, just found the receipts and total cost for 15 blinds was £2295

5 wooden vertical
6 roller
1 perfect fit
1 Venetian
2 roman

This includes initial visit to measure up and agree choices, fitting and 5 year guarantee.

could you get a local handyman/joiner to measure and you order online. Then get him to fit them?

imjessie · 04/06/2017 13:02

We paid £750 for wooden slated blinds on our new build from a local company and that's fitted too . I think Hilary's fleece you !

AnnaNimmity · 04/06/2017 13:35

It's a small local independent shop/company

Do the large companies do the measuring/fitting etc?

Paid £480 for a bay window. Small local company London borders. It could be £360 but went for a better quality. However I will be doing all regular windows myself buying online as it is roughly half of the price

I got roller blinds for the bay in my bedroom, plus one other window in there, measured and fitted by the company for £270. That's in Liverpool.

sparechange · 04/06/2017 19:48

5 silk Venetian blinds with blackout lining for bedrooms
2 blackout blinds for Velux windows
£650ish from Blinds To Go

I had to measure, and fit them myself but it took less than 10 mins per window and just required one screwdriver

AnnaNimmity · 04/06/2017 21:06

Thanks all, seems that I'd be massively overpaying even if it is convenient and easy. Will shop around a bit more.

Blinds2go are fab. And then you just pay a local handyman to fit them. They have measuring guides on their website.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/06/2017 21:11

Any idea why you've been told rollers are a no? What type of blinds are they?

AnnaNimmity · 04/06/2017 21:26

It was some reason to do with my bay window and the wooden bits in between each window.

The blinds they suggested I have are the ones you can pull up or down and they're kind of pleated (can't remember what they're called). I wanted roller blinds though.

I may try blinds to go - the company I've got the quote from measured the windows for me.

That sounds odd to me I have to admit, especially if they've suggested an alternative horizontal blind style. I'd be getting a second opinion I think.

Is it roman blinds (fabric which folds up?)

AnnaNimmity · 05/06/2017 07:20

It's kind of pleated material - slightly papery in texture

Sorry, mine are roman blinds, not Venetian

They look really smart, in my opinion
