Has anybody had their garage door painted (metal)?

My garage door is starting to peel and one side is going grey so needs painting. Called a few decorators and hard to find somebody who will paint a garage door.

Have you had your garage door painted? Any problems/advice?

I haven't as mine's still relatively new but my FIL does his. He just sands it down and paints it.

Yes, you get special garage door paint. Lasts a long time.

It might be hard to find a decorator because it is such an easy and quick job to do. Hardly worth their time.

I have got a couple of people coming over to give quotes... wanted the professional finish which we won't get which is why I wanted a painter to do it

It's really easy, same as painting any door/wall.
You buy external paint for wood/metal (same as you use for doors, but for outside. Then you sand it and paint it.

If it is flaking/peeling a lot and there is bare metal underneath then you need a primer first.

Really easy job.

Okay my DH did say he could do it hahaha but I thought get a progressional to do it lol

Then I was discussing it with my Dad and he was saying it's an easy job to do yourself! I just laughed and said u never did your own garage door hahaha

Yes, I did it myself. It was an easy and quick job to do. Our neighbours liked the colour and did theirs the same colour as the garages were next door to each other.

It really is a doddle job. Ours needs doing again, mind.

There are videos on youtube how to do anything. There will be one about garage door painting, honest.

My painter did this last year. She used a Sander, sugar soap and good quality paint. She is a brilliant painter though.

Dh did ours, with specialist paint - forget the name but you can get it in most diy shops. It was quite a big job since the proper prep + 2 coats took a long time.
