Cost of installing gas for cooker (already have gas boiler for heating)

Need to replace existing ceramic hob and oven and thinking of buying a range cooker. Would it be costly to install a gas pipe so that we cab have a gas hob? We have a gas boiler for the heating which is in the adjacent utility room.

not very.

I was quoted £400 for it and the boiler was already in same kitchen!
I went for induction hob instead of paying so much.

No issues with induction hob as such but I do like gas hob and might go for it when I do kitchen extension.

£400 feels like a lot to me - might just go for an induction hob range....

The reason was given as they needed to add a new pipe from source and cant extend the boiler pipe to connect hob. May not be same case for you. You can try getting a quote.

I am generally happy with induction hob. Minor issues

  • a thick sauce do bubble and splatter more if I try to cook it at higher setting. Reason being even my all-clad/triply pan heats more at bottom than sides as compared to using gas
  • Cant do the cooking methods which can only be done on flame

Advantage of induction, easy cleaning, easy for simmering on low settings.

I had my cooker pipe moved by a gasman (not quite the same thing)

I doubt it took him as long as an hour.

They will have a minimum charge, I don't know what it is, might be £50, might be £100. Can't be £400.

it's easy with copper pipe, harder with iron, much harder with lead unless he is a wrinkly old gasman.

Would depend on where the gas comes into your house and where the kitchen is. Ours gets as far as under the stairs, so would need to go through a wall, under the dining room floor, and into and across the kitchen. Quoted £800-1000. I decided I was happy with my ceramic hob.
