Stairs - cat scratches carpet so what other options are there?

As above.. our cat destroys any carpet we go down so we are looking for another option. Will need to be for the downstairs hallway, stairs (which are straight) and the upstairs landing. We have carpet throughout the rest of the house. Stairs are quite steep and we have a toddler so want to think about safety too

Our moggy destroyed our stair carpet (she got through carpet and underlay to wood) We did have wooden stairs for a while but they weren't nice.

Oddly enough she didn't go for the new carpet, I think with the old one she found a loose bit and just attacked it.

There will be advice on Litter Tray in Pets.
The man in the carpetshop told me I'd just have to kill the cat Hmm . I ignored him .

Scratching posts with catmint?
Orange to keep them away from carpet (they don't like orange)
water spray if you catch them.

What about one of the smoother hessian type carpets, tighter weave and less fluffy. Would that be safer ?

(Our cat isn't with us now, she was 17 when she died)

Go for a twist pile, not a loop.

And invest in a good set of nail clippers (you can trim cat claws yours) plus a scratching post and shed loads of cat nip.
