Hi
We are looking to buy either Origin or Schuco aluminium bifold doors & windows for our extension. Can anyone recommend a local or nationwide reputable supplier? We are in Hertfordshire. Thanks.

Enfield windows supplied Origin bifolds for our extension. They're great.

Paxton's home improvement in Saffron Walden. Their sales and fitting were good - site surveyor had improvement potential.

Herts Bifold Doors do both brands and have examples in their showroom. I'm getting my Origin bufolds from there. They're in St Albans.

Anither company that came recommended in searches was Open Living in Letchworth. Again, they do both brands. I didn't go to their showroom:

I can personally recommend Hertsbifolddoors. We have a custom size (Origin) bought through them. Ditto going to their showroom and have a look.

Thanks everyone that's great!

I can tell you one company to avoid - Alpine Aluminium. We are currently having doors fitted (I will believe it when I see it) from them. Not bifold but they do them too. Total nightmare of a company and lie all the way. Avoid.

I would look at Basfords near nottingham 5 mind juicy 25 m1 derby ,we brought 3 sets
Of Bifold’s from them good service and great advice

They have a large showroom we went on a Sunday the guy there was very knowledgeable we choose origin as they have the finger safe
Gaskets which is why we choose them over shuco ones they had 5 different makes to look at which was great to compare
And they came with a 20 year warranty

The fitters were really nice and we would use again. Hope this helps

I really wouldn't recommend Open Living. They fitted our Origin inline sliders (sliding doors) and completely rushed the installation so both sides of the doors didn't close properly. Someone from Origin had to come out and managed to fix one side dear but we're still waiting for Open Living to come back and fix the other side. Not impressed. They didn't fit our rooflight correctly either. Hmm

Another vote for HertsBifold Doors

No pressure sales, very clear on what I was buying, very easy to deal with and the fitters were awesome. I adore my doors.

I used basfords they are the largest dealer in the U.K. , I found them while looking for schco bifolds which they also sell , we also looked at there large sliding doors , but picked two sets of origin in a farrow and ball colour they had in there showroom .

We had them fitted with no problems and great service .
Hope this helps

For you or for others: With most well known brands being of good quality, the builder/fitter matters more. My mistakes in choosing the Architectural Glazing Company were:

  1. Not choosing a local established company with a storefront which I could walk up to & complain if need be.
  2. I went for the cheapest quote
  3. Not holding back on a large portion of the ££ until after completion.
I'd also check upfront what Building reg certification I'd receive at the end of it - i.e. FENSA or equivalent. i.e. if you don't employ a separate building reg inspector.
