Gas hob with electric double oven here. Love it.
The oven has an eye level grill so no more bending to squint at cheese on toast.
The oven is also away from the hob so its not so hot on the legs when cooking on the hob when oven is on.
I work on the principle if I have a power cut then I can always cook on the hob which will also heat the room.
And if the gas goes off then I still have the 2 ring electric hob I bought when we were redoing the kitchen.
I did think about an induction hob but wasnt sure if it would work with my cherished pots. Also would have needed another heavy duty cable put in.

I'd have a gas oven & an induction hob.

They're both cheap to run & Gas burns off fat on the flame.

We have an electric oven with a touch screen induction hob. Will never ever go back to gas!
Absolutely love the speed, cleanliness, and ease of use with the induction. I have never had any problems with stuff burning on the bottom of pans .
TK max sell induction suitable pans for the poster that needed induction suitable pans for a rented house.
Would recommend wholeheartedly the induction hob.

I'm intrigued by the number of people on here who have said they wouldn't have an induction hob in case of power cuts, because they wouldn't be abe to cook a meal. Do people really have so many power cuts and for such a long time that it affects their choice of cooker?

We've had a couple of prolonged power cuts (a few hours each time) since we've had an induction hob. I've just used the gas camping stove and got in with it. It certainly hasn't been enough to.make me regret buying an induction hob. I guess I would feel differently if I experienced several power cuts a week but does that really happen?

Memories of the 3 day week in the 1970s perhaps? We only had an electric cooker so were a bit stuffed for hot food. Those with gas cookers were quite smug, IIRC.

I haven't had my own gas oven for a long time, but it seems to me that

  • gas ovens put a better skin on a rice pudding
  • there is less smell of hot fat when roasting, because the flame burns it away.

Anyone agree?

I have a two pan induction hob alongside a two ring gas hob.
And electric oven with the option not to use the fan. Got fed up with fan in old oven going on and on for ages after it was switched on.

I'll never use another job other than induction again. Much better than gas. Electric oven.

BumWad · 09/04/2017 23:19

Gas job

Electric fan oven

Gas ovens do the best jacket potatoes too. But now I really want proper rice pudding!
