Re the couple of people who don't like the induction hob, why?
We have induction, and it's absolutely fantastic! {Unless you have a pacemaker.) Have you mixed it up with a ceramic hob? (I just can't believe everyone doesn't love induction...)

Sillysausage123 · 05/04/2017 09:04

I thought induction hobs are the best as they are so expensive.

I've always gone for electric oven and hobs as I'm paranoid about gas and knocking one of the knobs and not knowing and gas just seeping out.

9GreenBottles · 05/04/2017 09:37

There are very few days that I don't have to scrub the pans after using my induction hob - everything apart from water boiling has to be watched and stirred constantly, even when simmering at a low heat. I would love a gas hob again.

ZaziesPaws · 05/04/2017 09:50

Eh? 9Greenbottles. I just pop them in the dishwasher and I love how I can leave stuff to simmer for ages without catching. We've only got a cheap IKEA one.

FrenchLavender · 05/04/2017 10:08

You don't need to buy specific induction pans, they just need to be magnetic - I use Ikea 365 stainless steel pans which weren't expensive and work fine.

You do need to check that they are suitable for induction and look for the little sign on the bottom that says so though. I spent a fortune on a lovely set of pans and forgot to check and had to flog them on eBay. Sad

9GreenBottles · 05/04/2017 10:22

Yep ZaziesPaws, at least once a week I forget and have a pan soaking in the sink with washing powder. Can't cook a milk based sauce on the hob without having to pour it into a new pan part way through because it's beginning to catch - and that's with me standing stirring the whole time.

It might be the pans, but they were expensive, are suitable for induction, and I used them very happily on my gas hob for 10 years with none of these problems.

ZaziesPaws · 05/04/2017 10:24

Maybe because the pans are so old?

Flowerydems · 05/04/2017 10:25

Gas hob and electric oven, I bloody hate my electric hob

dilapidated · 05/04/2017 10:29

Electric hobs are different to induction though.

And yes, magnetic pans work with induction but unless they have the induction symbol on the bottom to say they were made for them it's likely that the metal will be too thing and the induction power will be too much.

Kiroro · 05/04/2017 11:30

Induction hob, electric oven

Kiroro · 05/04/2017 11:30

I hate electric hobs, but induction hobs with good pans are the BOMB

Tobolsk · 05/04/2017 11:41

Given the choice electric hob and electric oven.

However I used to have a wood fire aga, that was the best cooker I ever had

KoalaDownUnder · 05/04/2017 11:45

I fucking HATE my electric cooktop. Haaaate. (It's old as the hills, mind.)

I can't WAIT to get an induction cooktop! (No gas hook-up here, so can't have that.)

I'm ShockSad that some people hate their induction cooktops!!

KoalaDownUnder · 05/04/2017 11:46

Today 11:30 Kiroro

I hate electric hobs, but induction hobs with good pans are the BOMB

Oh good! Smile Which pans do you have? Mine are Le Creuset, which I'm not exactly keen to ditch.

Tobolsk · 05/04/2017 12:20

I use electric, with LeCruset pans. I like it because it's slow and I feel more in control of it.

dilapidated · 05/04/2017 12:21

Le creuset work with induction 👌🏻

Induction hob and self-cleaning electric oven here. We had an induction hob fitted 4 years ago and I would never want to use anything else. I don't see how pans can catch on it as the lowest setting is barely warm. Brilliant for all sorts of cooking and now that I've got a flat-bottomed wok I can even stir fry. And a doddle to clean.

I would never go back to gas.

flownthecoopkiwi · 05/04/2017 14:24

I used to love gas, then I met induction.

No contest, esp with kids around.

steppemum · 05/04/2017 14:29

gas hob, electric fan oven, every time

MistressMolecules · 05/04/2017 14:34

I have a dual fuel - gas hob and electric double oven (fan). Really would never want electric hob, or a gas or normal electric oven (top oven is conventional and only use it if I really have to). The only thing I would have different about my cooker next time, if I could, would be a range with a wok burner and maybe griddle on the top...not likely to happen but that would be my dream cooker!

sweetheart · 05/04/2017 14:36

We recently had out kitchen refitted with an electric oven and gas hob. We looked at induction hobs and whilst they are easier to clean I liked that fact that during a power cut we would still be able to use the hob. Also as we have cleaners I let them do the hob.

user1485984489 · 05/04/2017 15:26

While you're talking about inductions hobs, I wanted to ask some advice. I am shortly moving into a rented property which has an induction hob and have been pre-warned by LL that I need specific induction-friendly saucepans but have tried googling them and they all cost loads! Are there are budget-friendly ones around (that won't fall apart after 5 mins). Please and thank you for any tips - wasn't sure where else to post this.

ZaziesPaws · 05/04/2017 15:28

IKEA 365 user. Also Lakeland budget range, it's called value or essentials, something like that.

ZaziesPaws · 05/04/2017 15:30

Also, op, IKEA do two ring gas Hobbs and two ring induction Hobbs now. So you could have an electric oven and a two ring gas hob alongside a two ring induction hob if you want!
