What exactly is an induction hob? Blush
And do you need specially suitable pots for it.

eddiemairswife · 04/04/2017 22:15

Gas. If there's a power cut, you can always cook a meal or boil a kettle.

NannyR · 04/04/2017 22:16

I don't know exactly how the technology of induction works (i think it's something to do with magnets) but it's brilliant to cook on, it responds instantly to increasing and decreasing the temp (not like other types of electric hobs), it looks like a flat piece of glass so very easy to clean. You don't need to buy specific induction pans, they just need to be magnetic - I use Ikea 365 stainless steel pans which weren't expensive and work fine.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 04/04/2017 22:21

Induction hob or gas, but induction is loads easier to clean. I'd love a gas grill. Electric oven.

TheDogsMother · 04/04/2017 22:31

I've had an induction job since October after years of using gas. I wouldn't go back as it's so responsive and 100 x easier to clean. Also loving the pyrolitic oven. For the person who posted about a gas ring for a wok I have a heavy duty non stick wok with a flat bottom. It works a treat on induction.

bumpertobumper · 04/04/2017 23:49

I love my induction hob, would never go back to gas.
Most pots work, just not aluminium or copper. If a magnet sticks they work.
So responsive, and mine is much hotter at full whack than my admittedly rather crappy old gas hob.
Also love my pyrolytic oven, worth every penny of the extra 50 quid to never have to scrub the oven again.

Electric oven, and anything other than the gas hob we have at the moment. It's an absolute sodding nightmare, pans fall off the rests frequently, if we are lucky we just have to clean it and the work surfaces, if not we are cleaning up the floor while trying to prevent the dog from burning his mouth

Wikky · 05/04/2017 00:15

^Induction top pyoclean oven everytime as life's too short to be cleaning all the time*

I agree. I actually had a gas job installed about 5 years ago as I had lived abroad with crappy electric jobs but I now realise that modern U.K. Induction jobs are NOTHING like the old fashioned ones I used to use.

Waterfeature · 05/04/2017 00:40

Love our induction hob. Electric fan oven (but don't get Neff -- poor thermostat, doesn't heat to the indicated temp).

gluteustothemaximus · 05/04/2017 00:43

Gas hob, electric self cleaning oven.

Hate gas ovens with a passion.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 05/04/2017 00:45

Gas hob electric oven for me every time

HelsinkiLights · 05/04/2017 00:46

I have always had gas jobs & I find they are very easy to clean.
I have an electric oven but hate cleaning it (so get DH to do it.) So I do like the sound of the pyrotechnic oven.

HelsinkiLights · 05/04/2017 01:14

I mean gas hobs not jobs.

OnePlanOnHouzz · 05/04/2017 07:45

Induction hobs are great ! Those who have had a negative experience may have treated it like an electric hob - i.e. Thinking it takes ages to heat up and cool down - you actually need to think of it like cooking on gas still - so high setting is high instantly, and low is low, and there's no waiting for the change! Think like that and you won't go too far wrong in my experience.

So much cleaner, doubles up as a bit of extra worksurface too.

Yy to gad hob

Electric Fan double oven

ZaziesPaws · 05/04/2017 07:59

Until recently would have said electric oven gas hob. But once you get the hang of an induction hob, they are as responsive as gas and SO much easier to clean.

We had one in a holiday flat, and liked it so much bought a portable one for home. Will get permanent induction hob when new kitchen gets fitted in the summer.

00100001 · 05/04/2017 08:00

Just be aware that if you do go for induction, you might need to buy new pans

shirleycartersaidso · 05/04/2017 08:01

Gas hob electric oven.

Ifailed · 05/04/2017 08:03

Gas hob. You rarely see anything else in a professional kitchen and they know far more about cooking than I ever will. I also prefer gas ovens and grill as they seem to heat up quicker - though that could just be a perception.

CountMagnus · 05/04/2017 08:03

Where can I get a pyrotechnic oven? Does it work best on 5th November? Wink

Induction hob and electric pyrolitic oven.

Northumberlandlass · 05/04/2017 08:05

Gas hob, electric oven!

RedSandYellowSand · 05/04/2017 08:12

Someone else has said this. Gas hob, gas grill, electric oven (but not the sodding American thing i have at the moment, it's useless)

BikeRunSki · 05/04/2017 08:16

Also gas hob and electric oven. But I have never used an induction job, or heard of a pyrotechnic oven.

dilapidated · 05/04/2017 08:18

Electric oven and induction hob always

Hate gas

dilapidated · 05/04/2017 08:19

Or just go all out and have an AGA 😂
