LED strip lights around skylight in living room - yes or no?

We are in the middle of a big refurb and extension to our flat. The rear extension is going to be a lounge. It has a massive rectangular skylight in the ceiling. Today the builder mentioned it might be nice to have LED strip lights (the kind you sometimes have under counters in kitchens like this: THIS
He said they can be hidden above some coving around the opening up to the skylight and can really look cool and add mood lighting (apparently they come in different colours too). So, is this a good idea? Anyone done it? Or is it something I will regret (though I suppose I can always just not turn them on!)

I've got some in my house - they look good if hidden behind coving. Now sure it would look good on a skylight though? Mine are behind cupboards etc. Would it reflect off a dark sky / window or a blind?

Yes, I think it hidden by coving. The glass is obscured so would reflect against that I guess.

I can tell imagine what it would look like.... Google a pic perhaps?

Google "Philips Hue" - that is what you want - any colour under the sun via an app on your phone.

We've just had tiny led lights (they come on a roll) installed in our conservatory. They sit up in grooves and give fantastic light yet are very discreet.

No. Don't do it. Tacky really. Just have levels of lighting as normal. Wall lights, task light and table lamps. A large window with lights around looks like a Christmas decoration that's permanent.

I have a huge glass roof on my kitchen and a very large roof light on the landing. No led strips around them though.

We have led lights around our skylights - for various reasons, we couldn't have ceiling or wall lights and these look great. They are on dimmers so can adjust them to suit different moods/needs. We have had loads of complements on them, so I don't think it is just me being biased!

Forgive my absolute ignorance. Are they wired in to the light switch or how do they work? If it was me I would love them round a skylight, why not?

Oops, compliments, obviously.... Ours have an LED dimmable transformer but that is hidden in a cupboard, and they are wired into the standard light switches.

We have them round our large roof lights. They are hidden by coving and when it's dark do reflect a bit - but you do need to be looking up straight up to see the reflection and i tend not to do that. We use ours more on dull days/early morning/evening as they give a very good daylight look - so like it's sun coming in.
