Where to relocate to in Bolton area?

We are looking to move house to accommodate our daughter when she returns from uni. Have been looking in Ramsbottom/Edenfield areas but not found anything (find it very pricey and too compact). Now looking further afield, i.e. Egerton, Sharples, Bromley Cross etc - want good transport/railway connections; nice countryside/pubs/restaurants; safe area. PS I need to commute to Preston; daughter to East Lancs and husband to Salford so need to be central. Any tips most welcome.

Have a look at the area around Lostock (Chorley New Road). Some very nice houses (although its one of the more expensive areas of Bolton) and Lostock station is handy for trains to Preston and into Salford Central (about 20-25 mins). Its about 10-15 mins in the car into Bolton town centre, or a bus ride but on the edge of Bolton (towards the countryside) so you don't feel you're in the town centre.

Bromley Cross is lovely close to the countryside, nice village which has some good pubs. It's very pretty our house is in the conversation area. Train to Manchester Victoria is 30-40 minutes. Entwistle and Barrow Bridge are also worth looking at.

Thanks Zara - very useful. We have looked at Bromley Cross and Zoopla is very complimentary about it. Any idea what Sharples or Turton are like?

Turton and edgworth both gorgeous. Chapeltown is beautiful but v pricey.

Thanks Starspotter - all useful info. PS We went to the Brew House recently in Egerton and that was really nice. :)

Have you looked at Rossendale? Helmshore, Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth all nice. You will get more for your money than Ramsbottom even though it's only a few miles away. We lived there and loved it but have now moved further south due to work.

Have you looked at Adlington in Chorley? it's handy for trains, has a couple of pubs and restaurants. Low crime rate has a very safe feel. Has the canal going through for some nice walks.
