Anyone any idea how to get a padlock off when you don't have the key?

Dh has already tried hammering it against a wood chisel and broke the chisel.

It's our new gate and I think the previous owner probably lost the keys years ago

It's a good padlock and by that I mean it's folded back across the screws so you can't unscrew the plate it's on.

Any ideas ??? ConfusedConfusedConfused

Bolt cutters or a locksmith?

AndShesGone · 13/02/2017 14:56

I suspect a locksmith would be really expensive

Maybe bolt cutters? It's about half an inch thick steel the half moon bit of the padlock -

Can you drill through the lock? (is this what lock smiths do? They drill things on the bailiff type programmes)

Bolt cutters or a metal saw

wishparry · 13/02/2017 15:01

An angle grinder should do it.something a relative may have in a shed or garage?

CelineW · 13/02/2017 15:05

A metal saw will do. It may take time but it's free.

Dh is off to the diy store to buy a bolt cutter or a saw

I'm sure an angle grinder would be best but we will never use it again Grin

Hacksaw through the hasp hoop. Typically it's much easier than cutting the lock and is cheap / easy to replace.

Is the new gate finally realised from it's padlock?

AndShesGone · 14/02/2017 10:57

It is ! My macho Tarzany bloke hack sawed it off in the freezing cold Grin
