I've got this square of white plastic cladding between the upstairs windows any ideas?

It's a 60s house with 3 types of brick. And this square of upvc cladding between the windows it's probably 1.5m square(ish). Some have removed it and rendered and painted but it doesn't look much better. One house has rendered the whole front middle section, looks good but it's quite an undertaking.

I'm considering posting a pic but not wholly confortable about that.

I think removing it is easy, rather what to replace it with as it dates the property and looks quite random. Also cheapens it a bit. Is not classy anyway ha!

Does it need replacing on a 60's house though? They're not exactly known for their architectural beauty,are they ? ( I live in one!)

Yeah maybe you are right I thought I would ask on here before giving up as lost!

I am seeing this mid century modern look to new builds but with anthracite windows and cedar cladding and some render so I hoped I maybe able to update cheaply and cleverly somehow...

If you have wooden cladding won't that be a pain to paint every couple of years?

Sadolin manufacture stain and paint for wood cladding, that has at least a 7 year life. Our cedar cladding was painted 3 years ago and is still in perfect condition, despite being on the coast facing west.

Have a look on Pininterest and other sites and see what has been done to other 60s houses. Our last one had tile hangings under the windows, not beautiful but preferable to pvc cladding.

A 1960's house would not have been built with PVC cladding, it probably used to be tiles. Cladding suggests the wall is a timber frame, or perhaps the windows are set into the roof.

Wooden shiplap is quite a good cladding, but it needs treating every five years or so, so will be neglected if out of reach. IMO PVC will always look like plastic, even if it has a simulated wood effect. If you are taking the old cladding off, that's a good time to beef up the insulation in that section, especially if it is a timber infill, using a rigid foam slab. You can get systems designed for rendering over, if you like a rendered or painted finish.
