Going for a brignt airy bedroom in new build, which IKEA bed would you choose?

Hi there, we want a bright comfy modern bedroom moving on from our cold dark rental bedroom, we have bought a new build so are guarnteed warmth but I want a bright cosy room also, thinking of a light blue for the walls & which bed? Money is tight so unfortunately is not my dream bed but these 2 beds are very pretty & I would happily sleep in either, wardrobes will be a light grey

I have the first (more squared off) bed in black/brown. I love the appearance of it but wouldn't buy it again in future.
It marks very easily, the coating on the wood only needs touching and it comes away! We were unable to even build the bed without it happening :-(
It also creaks a lot, despite DP and I being a perfectly healthy weight and tightening it regularly.
We actually returned our previous IKEA bed (white, very similar to both your options) for those exact two reasons. It marked very quickly and creaked incessantly.

Both headboards are quite nice, if you sit up in bed to read then the curved one would have better back support I think. For me I would choose the first bed because I like having a footboard, but if either of you are very tall or if you don't have a lot of space at the end of the bed then it would be better not to have a footboard. It is easier to make and strip the bed without a footboard.

The last Ikea bed that I had was two divan bases with a king sized mattress over the top, it didn't creak and it had handy drawers in the base. On the other hand it didn't have a headboard either, although I think we could have bought on separately.

We have the IKEA Malm bed in a similar style room which I'd recommend but it might be too functional looking?

We had ikea beds in the past and imo the mattresses are gods value for money but the frames aren't great. You could just get a cheap divan base and spend a bit more on a wall mounted headboard. Divan beds don't crowd rooms as you save lots of cm by not having a frame.

Ikea sell both European sized beds and mattresses and British sizes. Make sure you choose the one you want (and that the mattress and bed are the same size as each other (bitter experience!)

I had a malm bed and it looked lovely and modern and sleek and I loved the look. However it was an absolute bugger for catching your shins on and it takes up precious cm in space.

I am now in the camp of a cheapish divan base (not a frame bed) + expensive mattress.

I would never buy a bed with a foot board - too constricting for tall people.

I agree, that foot board will be just a nuisance when lying down and something to bash yourself on when moving round the room.

you can probably do cheaper if you buy a bed frame from somewhere else online and then add a mattress. Bear in mind that slatted doubles or kings must have a central support - if one isn't supplied do a bit of carpentry.

and yes, check sizing!

I was after a cheap bed to dress our spare bedroom for sale. I ended up buying a bed called 'Lucia' from a company called bedzonline but through Amazon, they also sell on ebay. Seem a bit cheaper on their own website.

For the money it looks really good, not a forever bed in terms of quality but enough cross pieces in the frame so it feels very stable. You can see it in my house for sale listing, pictures 16 & 17.

I would have thought the vertical uprights on the wooden framed headboard would be uncomfortable sitting up in bed?

We have the first bed.
It is so noisy just sitting on it, turning over, adjusting a leg, if you walk past and knock it is rattles.
Don't do it.
I actually emailed them complaining about it and they replied but DH said to not reply as he was embarrassed they'll think we're just having rowdy sex on it and that's why. In reality it's too noisy for sex in a first floor flat! It makes a noise if you look at it funny I'm sure of it.

I was in Ikea today and noticed the bed with the rounded headboard as I went through the bed dept even though I wasn't looking at beds. I have to say it was pretty impressive, higher than usual, and I really liked it.

I have the first bed in king size, not noisy at all. I'm 5'11" and my Husband is 6'4", the foot board hasn't caused an issue (king size beds are longer as well as wider though).

None of the coating has come off, the only time that has happened to furniture in the past, is when we rented a flat that had damp.

We bought this frame as it was very pretty looking and quite cheap, then bought an expensive mattress from elsewhere. Very happy with it!

Thanks a million for the replies, we think we'll go for the first one as we have a small budget plus we bought off the plans & we are not sure when the house will be ready so it would be easier to pop to our nearby IKEA & buying there & carrying home that day. All the other major retailers have an order time on beds & we don't want to be without a bed, our mortgage advisor warned us not to make any large purchases before we draw down the mortgage so we won't be buying anything until we have the keys in our hands! So the first one is nicer? We havn't seen any in real life yet but as I said would love a bright, airy room & like the white..
