Bloody boiler - insurance / payment plan / new boiler recommendations??

Its gone yet again - but then it is getting on a bit - 7 yrs I reckon. Only had the engineer out 2 months ago and, if its the same issue, they won't charge but I reckon it will be something else and that's another £250 down the drain.

It's definitely going to need replacing soon so is there anything I can do now to spread the cost / pain of a brand new one??? Or any good deals / discounts on new ones if you get a particular product or service at the same time??

It feels like the kind of deals you see on TV but I can't think of what / how / why so don't know what to google!

We had a new boiler fitted by HelpLink and I believe they do payment plans.

We were on a contract with British Gas for our annual service and any repairs, they came out to us so often I knew them by name and they upped our monthly payments because of the number of call outs

Bit the bullet and had a Worcester Bosch boiler fitted by them this summer. Cannot recommend them enough.

They came out, gave us a quote and that stands no matter what issues they come across (we needed our gas pipe upgrading, as it started at 22mm and then somewhere in the house it became 15mm so they had to find where that was)

We had a person dedicated to us for any issues or problems. We actually rang on a Sunday and thought we would get an answer machine but got a lovely lady at home! We apologised profusely and she said that is what I am paid for, to be on call for any questions you have.

7 years? My last one did 20, and the new one I had installed in 2014 will hopefully do the same.

We had very poor experience with British Gas. They came in, condemned our then 6 year old boiler. Wanted £4,500 to replace it.

We got a local independent gas safe engineer in who replaced the boiler for £1500.

We had the monthly boiler care plan from British Gas for our old flat but the boiler was constantly failing & we decided to get a new one & BG sent their sales rep round. The main issue was he was charging us around £3000 for a cheap boiler brand our normal plumber fitted for £1300. When we told him this he then went out about our trades people being Cowboys & can't trust them. When we told him we weren't going to bother he essentially went on & on about how we have to sign up for this dead tonight & we are stupid if we don't. Couldn't get him out the house.

The benefit of British Gas is they let you pay the boiler up so if you can buy outright maybe they aren't so bad.

Lesley1980 that was very much our experience. DH had to practically wrestle a fairly sleazy BG salesman out of the door.

Which boiler do you have? Does it have a fault code?

Thanks for your experiences - so the monthly cover plans might be worth looking at but there's not much that will take away the pain of a new boiler!

And I'll avoid British gas!

It's a Worcester boiler and engineer today says it needs a new facia and reset button so I'm naively hoping that might solve a lot of the issues if it's possible to reset easily.

Sigh.
