I absolutely love it!

I think it's amazing, in a magnificently bonkers and grandiose sort of way. Love the bold colours - hate hate hate the scourge of magnolia blandness everywhere.

I do use those sort of deep colours but I would love to have the space and the ceiling height for massive pieces of quirky antique furniture and huge artworks like that. Sadly I don't think my 1960's estate house could really pull it off. Nor could my bank balance. Sad

I bet the removal men will love getting some of that stuff down the stairs though. Hmm

Absolutely gorgeous

lizzieoak · 02/10/2016 06:23

Jesus, Mary & Joseph the decor. Have to go lie down now, preferably in an isolation tank. I don't like minimalist, but this is a Llewelyn-Bowen wet dream as conceived during a tryst w Liberace.

However, the bones are wonderful, it's huge, and the garden is gorgeous. If I had that £ I'd snap it up, paint it all white, then slowly add in a bit of colour.

That's the thing about taste. One person's nightmare is another person's des res.

I grew up on that street and my mum sold the house last year! Vastly overpriced for a maisonette on that road, unless you are paying ££££ extra for the features and decor. Our house did not look like that, unfortunately. It's in the relatively "posh" bit of South Norwood, not at all dicey in my opinion.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 02/10/2016 06:52

Unique.

JustGettingStarted · 02/10/2016 07:21

I like it. I think some of the wallpaper is a bit much, but I do like the exuberance. I actually love the red lounge.

Obviously the bedrooms and dining room need swapping around.

Threebedsemii · 02/10/2016 07:23

I love it as a house. It's suspiciously cheap I agree and I reckon that's because it's going to need work which could cost the same again. But it could be stunning

Threebedsemii · 02/10/2016 07:25

Woah sorry I misread the spec and have just read iagreewithmrsdevers post- I thought it was the whole house!

SuperFlyHigh · 02/10/2016 09:42

That road in particular you do have to be careful on unless it's improved in the last 5 years, the area has gone up recently and it's fairly quiet but I still wouldn't walk near Grangewood Park at night or do any nice detours of there round to Thornton Heath high street.

I thought it was overpriced too!

South Norwood is one of those areas they keep pushing to go "up" and the High Street has very slightly improved plus Stanley halls has some yoga/craft cafe ideas etc but I still find it lacks soul and the High Streets are depressing beyond all hell. Lived in the area for years with a few escapes to other areas.

West Norwood on the other hand has got distinctly more desirable in the past few years...

FormerlyCatherineDeB · 02/10/2016 09:48

Hideous - imagine how much work you would have to do to normalise it in any way at all.

Having watched Nanny McPhee last night it sort of reminds me of the hallway in the film - fine on a sort of mad film set, less fine in a family home.

Shiningexample · 02/10/2016 10:55

Its so boring and unimaginative isn't it to just be normal and have the same decor as everyone else

CrikeyJoseph · 02/10/2016 14:41

It's too close to Thornton Heath high street for my liking.

It is bloody huge though!

Dizzybintess · 02/10/2016 14:45

some of it has as much taste as Laurence Llewellyn Bowen! but some of it is good.I can see definite potential there. I would say the current owner is definitely eclectic!

GerdaLovesLili · 02/10/2016 15:02

We're house-hunting, and I have developed magnolia paint blindness. So many almost identical houses, painted identically magnolia.

If I went to view this, there is a good chance that I would be able to remember it, as opposed to "was that the one with the hideous feature wall in the second bedroom?". Grin

whataboutbob · 02/10/2016 17:33

Is it the late Cynthia Payne's house?

BennyTheBall · 02/10/2016 18:09

The decor is just offensive - but there's a lovely house in there somewhere.

BennyTheBall · 02/10/2016 18:11

FormerlyCatherineDeB we watched Nanny McPhee yesterday too - and that was the first thing that popped into my head!

GinAndTunic · 03/10/2016 10:48

I kinda like it. It's an enormous house (almost 3,000 square feet) for that price.
