Solicitor/legal side of things

How did you appoint or choose a solicitor when buying or selling your home? How do you know who would be best?
When we bought our current home we were FTB and the builder threw in legal fees so we had to choose their one.
Is it worth using same solicitor for both the buying and selling?

Same solicitor is best.

do you have any friends/local Facebook groups where you can get recommendations?

Word of mouth is the best way.

Be aware that I've never yet had a solicitor who hasn't made a mistake. But If they are easily contactable, experienced, sensible, honest - then that's a good start.

We're buying another new build and they can recommend their solicitor again but wasn't sure whether they would necessarily be best?

No, not necessarily. Just go ahead and straight out ask people. People at work, friends, etc. Anyone you know who has bought or sold
