This local guy has quoted 10k for materials alone and about 10k for labour. The dimensions of the bathroom are 2.4m x 1.8m and the ensuite 2.3m X 1.4 (part of the room is cut out and makes up part of the bedroom).

I said to the bloke that I didn't want anything expensive, just really plain with white tiles and mid range fixings etc.

Is this a record do you think? We are both just looking at the paperwork like this 😦

May be worth saying you'll find the materials yourself? Our entire flat refurb (small 2 bed) is £7k labour with us sourcing materials, so £10k sounds mad!

I wonder if he's quoted high thinking you'll never use him so he won't have to do too pretty small rooms, which are going to be more awkward than bigger rooms? If you are not moving things around than that's pretty expensive.

I think it's possible but he has gone to quite a lot of effort with almost a pack of information and drawings.

I have decided to email and actually ask him if his total came out the same as ours just incase he got fat fingers around the zero button. It's worked out as more expensive than having our kitchen/diner replaced with a brand new kitchen including structural work!

Wow we had a small two storey extension done for that amount.

We had a bathroom installed about 5 years ago for £5000, also live in same county, £20000 seems excessive.

We were quoted a hilariously high amount to have our tiny ensuite replaced. My theory is the job is so small it's not worth the builders time (as they want the massive renovation projects lasting months) so they quote stupid high prices to put you off

That is absolutely insane, it's an area I work in and there is no way for mid range and white tiles it costs that.

Yes, I would expect tiles to be separate. Why don't you ask him how many days labour is included? I think you may be better off with someone else!

that is a truly mental amount of money unless you're having diamond fittings and a gold bath - I agree with £150 per worker per day.

Get another quote. If everything is going in the same place as it was and you're not going for expensive fittings then IME it should cost more like £4-5k per bathroom all in.
