chemical spray for woodworm - how long do we vacate for?

Hi there we have asked the timber specialist this question too - but does anyone have experience of this and know how long we would need to vacate a property for this treatment to take place - we have quite a bit of timber repair to do to the house we are buying and the chemical treatment presumably needs to happen once the dodgy woodwork is exposed ( roof space) but with two young DC I have no idea what to expect in terms of how toxic it is to humans and whether we will need to vacate properly.
Any one know ?

Airflow in a house is normally upwards, then into the roof, then out through the eaves

In hot weather you can open the loft hatch so the hot air rises and escapes, which helps the house stay cooler. Give that a try and see if your house has flow like that. It may stop at night or when the sun is not shining.

In which case the smell should not come into the house.

I don't know the answer, but the H&S instructions for the product ought to say. Ask the contractors for a copy, or a link to the manufacturer's site. IME it is the solvents in wood preservatives that are troublesome, the actual chemicals stay in the wood and are only released into the air during spraying. I expect the instructions will also say you should not touch the treated timber until it has dried.

Thanks pigletjohn my post was probably very confused but we aren't in the house yet and I had been told it needed doing before we move in so we wouldn't be present but given its in the roof space possibly it will be ok to wait until we are there.

Yes I think it is just timbers in the roof.
We don't have a loft.
I am just being cautious and don't want to expose my DC to anything toxic so was trying to understand if others had been advised to keep away - hopefully not.

Have actually done some reading today saying chemical treatment might not be that effective anyway but we will see what the experts say !
