About to paint over shiny kitchen walls - what do I need to do

Kitchen is currently cream walls and pinky orange woodwork. Planning to paint it either cream or white but the walls look like they have been done with some waterproof type paint. I know I need to wash the walls to get oil off but is there some sort or undercoat that would help stick the new paint to the old? Any advice appreciated

You'll need to sugar soap the walls to get the oil off and then sand them down, probably will need an undercoat for best results.

Ok thanks. I've just found an 'it covers everything' primer on the Internet so I'm going to try that. I really hate painting!

Sanding and then one or two coats of primer before you start painting.

There are loads of videos on YouTube if you need an interactive tutorial.
