Mortgage for Timber Framed Eco House

puggymummy1 · 03/06/2016 10:56

I am second viewing a 2 year old timer framed eco house with Knauf aquapanels. The EA has suggested that Nationwide may not lend on such a property and I was hoping to port my current mortgage over. There is 8 years left on the building certificate. Does anyone have any experience of mortgage providers who would lend on such a property? I intend to call the Nationwide when I back from holiday but thought I would ask on here too. Thank you.

I live in a completely wooden house and my mortgage is with Santander. The previous owners had theirs with Halifax. I couldn't move my RBS mortgage over to it though.

Thank you. I will explore both of those. I will check with Nationwide though. Did you have any trouble with house insurance?

No trouble - again not all insurers will quote me, but I've had insurance with Santander and the Post Office, I think it's currently with Kwik Fit - haven't needed specialist insurers.

We used Chorley building society as we needed a self build mortgage for the build. Also try ecology building society. No issues on home insurance, had lots of quotes back.

Handelsbanken do mortgages for unusual properties and might be worth a try. They were very helpful with our unusual proposition.

Thanks. We are just trying to establish the specific system name of the property.

Have had an offer accepted but still need to establish a specific name for the type of build for Nationwide. I want to explore them first as we are currently with them and it will be so much simpler. I am awaiting details from the vendor.
