Is a corner wardrobe the best use of this space? (pic attached)

We are looking at wardrobe options for our master bedroom and the space we have is slightly odd because of the chimney breast. I have never had a corner wardrobe and not sure how much extra space a corner wardrobe will provide. So what is the best use of this space - a straight wardrobe across the 1.88 mts or a corner wardrobe the covers the 1.88 and goes across the 1.2 mts. Hope this makes sense :)

Straight wardrobe gives me the option of sliding doors whereas with a corner wardrobe I can only have hinged doors. Also, if I go with the straight option, how do I best use the chimney breast space?
We are looking at the Ikea PAX systems.

Have you thought about moving the bed and using the recess space for your wardrobe? Or is your bed too big for the 1.88m space?

Lizzie, we have a king sized bed which is 1.6 mts wide. So technically it will fit in the 1.88 space, but doesn't leave us with much space around it. Also, we like the idea of having the bed where I've drawn it and all sockets and wall lamps have been placed accordingly.

The ikea corner units are really big compared to the straight, get the measurement off their website and then mark it out on the floor - you might get a fright! Also the corner unit leaves a bit of unused space at the back of the wardrobe which is quite wasteful.

I would put the head of the bed on the east wall, foot facing door and build into the recess then you could use any overlap across the chimney breast up in a bit of shoe or book shelving, would that work?

There are some really good ikea hacks using billy bookcases online.

I will get the sizes from Ikea and see if it actually fits. I should have drawn the room in its actual shape - the east wall is actually a curved window. So no scope of putting the bed there I am afraid.

We have a pax corner wardrobe and there is no unused space in the corner - it just depends how you fit it out and use it.

Did you use the online tool or did you take the measurements and go to Ikea and get someone to design one for you?

Your room is exactly the same shape as ours, aside from the curved window. We've gone for a wardrobe across the wall opposite the end of the bed. Our door looks like it openes the opposite way to yours, and that's the only thing that annoys me slightly, as it opens onto the wardrobe. But it's a giant wardrobe and doesn't intrude on the room at all. We've got chests of drawers along the wall with the door and then book shelves above the fireplace.

OP your window sounds lovely, doors can be turned to open the other way quite easily if that helps.

Wofudge did you get ones that go right into the corner because when I was looking at Pax it was this design here that was available and it annoyed me that the back was not corner shaped. Also I needed the wider units at the side which left even more empty back corner space. Was I being dense?

Lamansky I am going to have to go back to the house to see if we can have the wardrobe opposite the bed (we are currently not living at the property)
As you enter into the room, the width (I suppose) is 315 cms. The kind size bed will occupy 210 of that and the average wardrobe depth is 60. Even if I get sliding doors, that leaves me with 45 cms between the foot of the bed and the wardrobe. Will that be enough!? I am pathetic at gauging sizes!

Occams we have turned the doors in the guest room to get more space. Will have to have a rethink for our bedroom too :)

It doesn't sound too bad. I'm awful at gauging sizes too, but I know how long a 30cm ruler is and tend to use that as my basis for things!I'm sure we had less than that between the foot of our bed and the bookcase at the end of it in our old flat.

It would be a good idea to mark the bed & wardrobe out with masking tape on the floor, as suggested upthread, if you're going there again as it will show exactly what size it will all be and then you can see whether it's something you can live with.

does the door open right against the wall?

I used the online tool then just figured out what we needed to suit what we wanted to store. I went back with some bits and pieces and got some other things from the Komplement range to go in them - luckily we don't live far away.

Hiahia the door opens right against the wall. However, I do intend to have some storage built above the door as shown in your second link.

One straight run along the 1.88m wall will be less invasive ( thinking of the hemmed in feeling from bed if you have wardrobes going around the corner )
