help me solve problem at my poorly mum's. extra long shower adapter to reach from sink to shower.current bath tap shower set up lousy/ refit needed but too disruptive. quick fix sought.

Hi. My mum is very poorly ( cancer) and we can't find a workable short term solution to her shower problem. There is a shower mixer thing on her bath but the pressure is so low that it dribbles and either scalds or freezes as it does so. The correct solution is a total refit but the hassle would be too overwhelming for Mum. Pressure in her separate sink taps is ok and if we could just find something that we could attach to those taps but which stretches to her bath seat ... at least 3m? Any ideas.social services/ off health (normally great) could only suggest a 1.5 m one. Any ideas.

There doesn't seem to be anything on the market that would fit the bill. Maybe you could construct what you need from 2 basic shower hose kits by splicing the long hoses together. Or replace the long hose completely with a length of similar rubber tube. If you go to a good Diy shop you might get some help there.

power showers are quite easy to fit without too much disruption.

Thanks, Bouncy and Kill. Splicing might be an idea. When late dad put in rubbish shower attachment I recall an issue with position of water tank. It was the reason he couldn't a power shower. But that was 20 odd years ago. I'm not against revisiting it but I'm trying to avoid any work at all in her house due to her health problems and need for minimum fuss at the MO.

You need one of the ordinary rubber twin tap shower things, but where the shower head screws off. Then you can just screw in a conventional shower hose to extend the overall length. Mostly they're silver metal, but you can get white-ish ones so it won't look quite like such a bodge job!

A rubber-hose-on-taps might not work.

If you put your thumb over the spout of the hot tap, can you stop the flow?

What about the cold tap?

Thank you piglet and spring. I kind of know what you are getting at, piglet. I am a couple of hours away, I work 4 days and can only get there next Wednesday - chemo appointment. Have a bit of a serious health problem meself which adds to mix (pardon rubbish pun). I will investigate spring's idea in the meantime but will look at the water flow at taps when next there.

pressure, not flow. Very often the cold tap is at mains pressure, and the hot at loft tank pressure, which is much less.

I guess I mean an electric shower rather than power shower.
too the plumber 20 min to install and cost 200£ all in (6years ago).
was bliss to have a proper warm shower.
