Buying a no. 13 house...am i bonkers to worry?!

we have decided to plump for a new build in a lovely dorset town. all ready to put down the reservation fee, great deals agreed etc. But we just saw our house would be number 13.... I didn't think developers used that number? I'm not mega superstitious but it just, well, niggles a little - am i being bonkers?! Do you think they'd change it??!

Could you be 12A instead? I think it's bonkers, but the trouble is, it might put future buyers off your house (they're are a lot of other silly superstitious people out there!!)

We live on a new build estate and there are no number 13s, I assumed it wasn't used. Around the corner though are two semis - the first semi is numbers 1 and 3 and the one next door is numbered 5 and 9. No idea why 7 hasn't been used.

If the number can't be changed could you use a house name instead?

I bought a number 13 on Friday 13th. Lived there happily till 1st marriage broke down. Sold the house to a man.

Fast forward 2 years, got together with the man who bought the house on Friday 13th. Moved back into the house to live with him.

Now been married to him for 25 years.

Lucky number 13 for me!

It would put me off. If you feel superstitious about it now it may affect your life.

I lived at a number 13 for twenty years and nothing happened.

When we did move it sold quickly too and that number did not put any buyers off either.

I grew up in number 13. My life's been pretty charmed. I'd think it ridiculously twee if developers avoided it

I had an argument with someone in Hong Kong about the fact she lived on the thirteenth floor and the fact it was called the fourteenth didn't change that fact

I was utterly confused as our next door neighbour is 11, and we are 15. I've been looking for number 13 all down our road!

Of course, that means we "officially" live at 13. Which probably explains why we can't fix our tap

OP I can see why it niggles but it is just a number. Happy house buying

I've worked for a house builders and there were never any number 13s. If it's bothering you (even if just from a resale point of view), it may be worth calling the builders or speaking to the site manager if he's still around and asking if it can be changed to 12a.

Personally I'd find 12a more annoying, would much rather have my own unique number

Are you sure it's not the plot number? My plot number was 12 but house number was 57!
