Do you need to have the chimney of a gas fire swept?

Have just moved house and our new one has an open gas fire, which has a chimney, like a normal open fire. Do I need to have chimney swept? I would ask the previous owners but they have been less than helpful so far! Thanks

I would say yes, you do need to. Especially if the vendors are being unhelpful, then you have no idea when it was last swept. If the chimney is blocked by something and you've got a gas fire on then ....... not great.
