Plumber has just spilt radiator gunk all over my carpet and shoes

Don't really know how to sort it out. The plumber that is doing a few jobs for us has spilt black radiator water all over the hall carpet when taking an old radiator outside. It's spilt onto 3 pairs of shoes too. He's tried to clear it up but that radiator gunk is stubborn stuff. What's the fairest thing to do? Nothing? Expect something from the plumber? House insurance claim (though my excess isn't cheap)?

Claim on his insurance? Were there any dust sheets down?

There were dust sheets down but the trail of gunk has managed to miss them entirely...

My husband is a plumber and would pay for you to have it cleaned (has had this exact situation happen). He wouldn't see a customer out of pocket for a mistake of his. You should expect him to make it right.

Your plumber should have insurance to cover exactly this sort of thing.

Agreed, plumber should sort it
