How can I turn an empty built in wardrobe into an Ikea style haven of order?

I have a built in wardrobe which is the current home of the house linen ( I have actually just stuck a free standing storage type shelve inside it). However, as it is in DS's room I would like to turn it into his wardrobe and make it child friendly, i.e., with at least some drawers/ railing at his height so he can take things out himself.

Would I have to get railings, shelves and drawers custom-made or is there any other way to achieve this, taking into account that my DYI skills don't go much further than putting IKEA stuff together (although my dad could lend a hand, but he is no carpenter either).

Any suggestions?

I'm currently looking at my own walk in wardrobe/dressing room (so excited!) and am looking at various options including these:

Similar thing ongoing here... Lots of built in wardrobes but very little internal shelves or rails. Rails are easy - diy shops sell all the brackets and gubbins you need. Pinterest for ideas too.

Measure the internal dimensions then look on IKEA website for things that fit. An ordinary chest of drawers might fit in - Try gumtree or eBay.

I really like the second link too - especially the rails that go round corners!Grin

DP seems to think there will be more space for his clothes this way Hmm, I'm seeing it as an opportunity for more clothes for me!
