Anyone got a Neff oven? Worth paying more for Slide and Hide door?

We are on a tight budget, and although I like the look and the function of the slide and hide oven, am wondering if it's worth it.

We have one and absolutely love it x

We have some going into new kitchen ... Hope they are worth it Wink

TeddyBear5 · 13/08/2015 21:56

Are you watching GBBO? Grin

MmeLindor · 13/08/2015 22:09

Not watching GBBO but DD is very influenced by it!

Yes - absolutely worth it, especially (if like me) you have a small kitchen.

MmeLindor · 13/08/2015 22:18

It is quite a small kitchen. I'm short, so am thinking it might be easier to lift things out of the oven, if the door isn't in the way.

Anyone got opinion on gas vs induction hobs, while we are all here? I like cooking with gas but will I regret the extra cleaning?

We are defo having gas...have you seen the gas hobs in glass. I've seen a lovely black glass one

BitterChocolate · 13/08/2015 22:31

I have one and I like it a lot, it saves me knocking my shin on it and it's easier to lift heavier stuff out.

jo164 · 13/08/2015 22:39

I have always had gas and thought I would really miss it when I moved to a house that has no gas supply - however I have just had an induction hob put in and it's fantastic. It's quicker than gas, just as controllable and so easy to clean!! I'd never go back! Try and find someone who has one and look how good they are before sticking with gas. Didn't go for slide and hide as husband thought it was a waste of money :-( having said that we went for John Lewis touch control ovens and they are great.

FancyForgetting · 13/08/2015 22:41

I love our Neff hide/slide - I'm also short and have a narrow, galley-style kitchen, and do find it easier. We also got the slide-out arm things (sorry, not the technical term!) which are great if you have something heavy like a roast in - you just pull the shelf out and it stays level so you can baste/check without having to lift it out.

I was persuaded (reluctantly) to give up my gas hob for an induction one and really love it - very responsive and in a smaller kitchen it looks very streamlined and tidy and can double up as workspace when it's not on. Only problem is you may need to get new pansies yours aren't suitable for induction - although Neff often have a deal with a set of pans coming free with the oven.

FancyForgetting · 13/08/2015 22:43
  • pans if!!!
MmeLindor · 13/08/2015 22:46

lol at pansies. No pansies in our garden at all!

I'm really torn now between gas and induction - I really like the thought of the sleek look of induction but gas is much cheaper. Will have to go and take a look at both.

I am definitely getting a Neff hide and slide when we do our kitchen this year. Our oven is next to a pillar and cleaning it is a right pain. A hide and slide door will solve this perfectly.

firesidechat · 13/08/2015 22:47

Induction hob too.

firesidechat · 13/08/2015 22:50

We have had gas hobs at home for years, but have used induction hobs in holiday homes. The induction hobs have been a revelation.

Apologies for the disjointed posts. I'm tired and on my way to bed.

Absolutely nothing to do with the two glasses of wine.

gruber · 13/08/2015 22:53

Definitely go for Slide and Hide. My parents have had 2 put in in their new kitchen and it is so much easier. Especially with narrow kitchens or small spaces, well worth the extra money - and their previous neff oven lasted 25 years!

FancyForgetting · 13/08/2015 22:54

Do check out Siemens as well as Neff - apparently the products are identical (same company I think?) and we ended up with a Neff oven and Siemens induction hob as it was on a special offer and much cheaper than the Neff version.

MmeLindor · 13/08/2015 23:02

Thanks fireside, and goodnight!

Fancy
I think AEG, Siemens and Bosch share parts and are sometimes identical aside from the names, but didn't know Neff was too. We've always bought German appliances cause DH is German and won't have anything else. To be honest, neither would I now, because the build quality is generally better.

Ok, I've put the Slide and Hide back into the shopping basket! I hope no one at JL monitors this cause I've gone back and forward for days on it!

FancyForgetting · 13/08/2015 23:12

I'm with you on the German appliances! It was the kitchen planner who told me about Neff - she wasn't sure if I'd object to having different names on the hob/oven, but, much as I like order, I couldn't stress about that when she was saving us money Smile

My DD was also v keen because of GBBO and her friends are impressed with it too! I never thought I'd get so excited about this sort of thing, but at least I'm out of my teens Grin

Happy cooking!

greenhill · 13/08/2015 23:18

Get your retailer to check lead times before you commit to anything. Some Neff products have a seven month lead time due to production problems on new items.

Neff and Siemens are the same, as are Gaggenau and Bosch.

MmeLindor · 13/08/2015 23:26

Thanks - will check on delivery times. I was looking on JL site and they are apparently available immediately but will make sure.

I've just checked my pots and was amazed to see that they are actually induction compatible - they are 18yrs old so thought they weren't.

We have one of these - I think it's the base model with the slide and hide door, although we refer to it as the Bake Off door. It is really handy in a small kitchen and (so I've read) with higher-level built in ovens as you don't have to reach over the door to get the food out.

It's a good oven so far. We also have a Neff gas hob but it hasn't been fitted yet (requires changing worktop - may as well change the sink while we are at it - what about the tiles, blah, blah, ever-growing job ...)

MrsExcited · 13/08/2015 23:35

I would say induction hob is more important than slide and hide.

Sapat · 13/08/2015 23:40

I love mine! Fantastic oven. I am also short and my kitchen is tiny so very convenient.

MmeLindor · 13/08/2015 23:46

Damn you all. I could have saved £500 going for cheaper hob and oven. Shouldn't have asked ;)
