Anyone got a Neff oven? Worth paying more for Slide and Hide door?

We are on a tight budget, and although I like the look and the function of the slide and hide oven, am wondering if it's worth it.

We didn't bother with induction hob, just normal glass electric x

firesidechat · 14/08/2015 07:19

I would say induction hob is more important than slide and hide.

Yes I would agree with that.

Pyrolytic oven on the other hand....

MmeLindor · 14/08/2015 07:58

What's the deal with the self-cleaning thing? I've been reading that and it's only the sides of the oven, isn't it? I can't see that it's worth extra money.

I think pyrolytic is different. It heats the oven to a very high temperature and grim and grease disintegrates and can be whipped away. It's not just the sides, although that was previously true of old style self cleaning ovens.

PlainHunting · 14/08/2015 08:28

Our Neff slide and hide door kept falling off (and could only be fixed by Neff who took weeks To come out each time). Wouldn't have one again.

Callmecordelia · 14/08/2015 08:28

Pyrolytic cleaning is amazing. The one thing I miss from our old flat.

swillows · 14/08/2015 08:59

Definitely check on the lead times - I am ordering two Bosch ovens, one regular, one microwave combi and have been told that the combi will now be 12-16 weeks. Luckily the chap I am getting them from is sourcing me a slightly different oven from the one I had originally chosen and it should be with me in 10 days but the other oven would have been 4-6 weeks.

I lost count of the number of places I contacted because their website showed they'd got the items in stock but when I rang them, they said no we haven't and it will be weeks before we get them.

We are also getting an induction hob so looking forward to trying that but could not give up gas completely so have gone for a single domino wok burner as well Grin As a friend said, you never see induction hobs in professional kitchens or on the tv.....

MmeLindor · 14/08/2015 09:16

Will check on the times - that is non-negotiable for me, so would chose another oven if it's not available right now.

Still swithering re the hob. It's about twice the price of a gas hob. Will go and have a look in Currys today.

I'm another induction hob convert. They are brilliant, and worth every penny imo. I would compromise on a cheaper oven to get an induction hob.

jamaisjedors · 14/08/2015 13:52

If you are getting induction check that your electricity supply is up to it.

We went back to gas after finding out we would have to upgrade our type of electricity (more capacity) if we had induction (France - not sure if it works the same in the UK).

V. Happy with our glass gas hob from Ikea which we chose at the last minute because it was in stock when we needed to install it.

GoooRooo · 14/08/2015 13:53

I had a slide and hide in my last house and LOVED IT. I would definitely get one again.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/08/2015 18:12

Bloody love my induction, it's only a zanussi because we had the builder fit it before we bought the house and couldnt stretch to a miele or bosch but it cooks really quickly and has a timer on it so you don't waste any electric. It switches itself off if it boils over too.

Did you know miele have a discount oultet store near oxford?.

CointreauVersial · 14/08/2015 18:46

Induction hobs are amazing, even the cheap ones. Cleaning it involves nothing more than a quick wipe with a dishcloth - nothing bakes on. Control of heat is even more immediate than gas. Ikea cheapo pans work with it - go for thick bottoms for faster heat.

I don't have one of those oven doors but would love one, because our oven is quite high up, and it would make loading it a hell of a lot easier.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 14/08/2015 19:23

Sorry to come in late here with a question; can you get slide and hide door with pyrolytic cleaning in the same oven?

I had pyrolytic on last cooker but one and won't compromise this time.

Love induction hob and would also add a gas burner for wok type cooking.

MmeLindor · 14/08/2015 21:37

Don't think it will be an issue because the house was rewired last year - think the electrician would have said if there was a problem.

We are all the way up in Scotland, so bit far from Oxford to the Miele shop. Would LOVE Miele - we had appliances from them when we lived in Switzerland and they were ace. But so so expensive!

Checked my pots and pans, and was astonished that they are indeed ok for induction hob - despite being 18 years old. We got them as wedding presents.

Don't really have space for gas burner, because we want a double width hob. That would be awesome though!

Yes you can. Neff do one.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 15/08/2015 13:13

Ah, I don't need the double width hob.

Thank you fireside that's what I'll be getting then, bliss!

Peshwari · 16/08/2015 15:15

When we bought our Neff Oven, the slide and hide feature added £300 to the cost! They're nice but not £300 nice imo. They were fairly new then might not be as much of a difference now.

It was much the same for the gas v. induction. A decent induction was £300 more than a nice gas on glass hob.

MmeLindor · 17/08/2015 13:07

Peshwari
They are more expensive than the Bosch oven I was looking at, but not much more than the cheapest Neff. Just over £100.

Going to have a look at them today, and will decide then.

Thanks all for your help - I've decided on the Neff oven and a induction hob. Now all I need is for JL to accept my foreign payment card! Was a bit of a let-down, not to be able to order them today!

I will! I stood for ages in Currys today, opening and closing the door. I may even have videoed myself opening and closing the door Blush

Ha I love that!!
I have bought the ovens-awhile ago we saw a good deal from a local firm but I still have no kitchen!! I've seen a lovely kitchen but it's too expensive. So, I have lovely sexy ovens but they are firmly packaged away as I have no where to put them.

We went for the [[http://www.johnlewis.com/neff-b44s42n3gb-slide-and-hide-single-electric-oven-stainless-steel/p419428 basic one - It doesn't have the pyloric cleaning thing, but I don't clean my oven that much anyway so didn't feel it was worth spending an extra couple of hundred for it.

They've just brought out the new models, so you might get a bargain at the moment. I preferred the one above, as it has dials. The one I looked at in a local store has touchscreen, and I can imagine that being a nightmare when you have wet or oily hands.

I've searched the internet (and locally) and the absolute best price I could find for the Neff appliances was John Lewis. There was one place that was about the same price, but I'd rather order from JL, as their customer service is generally very good.
