Is there a stylish (or other word I can't think of) way to add a fireplace to a new build?

Just that really.

I really need a fireplace and new house has no chimney. Mostly I want the mantle and hearth but would look daft with no fire.

I think electric will be best so we can have the light but no heat occasionally for a bit of 'ambiance'.

I've looked at various online places and the DIY stores but they all seem a bit tacky.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

why do you need a fireplace?

could you have a mantle shelf with out the fake fire?

wood burning stove? or a fake stove? can look much smarter & more modern than a trad fireplace.

but why do you need one? we have a v modern house with a built-in low cupboards all along one wall and a shelf / picture in the spot opposite the sofa where a fireplace could be in a trad house. That gives the room a focus and gives more storage.

I suppose I don't 'need' one but I think I want one. I inherited the 'companion set' and some gorgeous brass weights when my mum died and really want somewhere suitable to keep them.

I will look at fake / electric stoves. Would one look ok with a slate hearth and wooden mantle shelf do you think?

You can have a real wood burner with no chimney if you want? You just need an external wall. You can build a mantel/shelf/whatever around it.
