Would you buy extra land as garden that had a water filled ditch on it?

We are looking at a house that is lovely in loads of ways, but the garden is a bit small for us. Behind the garden is land that is rough bramble and tree
covered land, used to belong to a farmer but now belongs to local gravel company. We would like to buy a small bit, eighth of an acre maybe. Next door have done this, and I cheekily asked them to have a look. Turns out there is a large rain water drainage ditch that goes along here. Next door have built a little bridge over it, and planted reeds etc. The area is high flood risk, but the existing garden and house are so much higher they are safe.
Would you buy the land, or keep looking for another house? We've been looking for two years now and I really like this one.

The house being on a flood plain would be my biggest worry, but if you are sure there is no risk there then I would probably go for it. I'd love a stream running through my garden, it would so idylic! I'm a bit of a gardening enthusiast so I would try and grow some water cress in the flowing water and would enjoy all the wildlife that the stream would attract. It would probably be a selling point to me rather than a downside.

I'm very sure the house is safe, it's a steep slope down, so no flood risk to house or existing garden. I'm a gardener too, so dreaming of bog plants and marginals..although it's not a fresh water stream, just a ditch(man made) that goes round an acre or two of wild land. A stream would be preferable!

I'm wondering if there would be a mosquito problem with standing water?

I went to knock on the neighbours door today, and a very nice old gent showed me his garden, as a comparison. He has a little bridge over the ditch. He showed me the line where the flood occasionally comes to. It hasn't killed off any of the shrubs and trees he has down there.
I'm also wondering about safety...I have an 8 yr old and. 5 yr old. The water is not deep like a pond, but it is still water and I know you can drown in tiny amounts. Hmmmm.

I would not fancy it.

In the summer, you will get midge bites, and just because it hasn't flooded yet doesn't mean it won't.

I would also worry about little ones getting stuck in the mud. Doesn't bear thinking about.

We have a ditch in our field, could be garden as it is only 50m from the house, doesn't cause us any issues with Mosquitos or bugs tbh. Nice to see frogs and toads. We never even thing about it being there tbh apart from when we strim the bank.
