if you have grey wall in rooms, how does it look at night? bright enough or not?

While looking for property to buy, I saw some houses with grey pain on walls and they looked nice in daylight. I am thinking of painting similar colour in our new house but i am not sure how it will look at night.

Current rented apartment has cream walls and they look cosy and nice at night with bulbs/lamps but i am a bit bored of cream/magnolia colour. Do you have any pictures or feedback about how the grey walls compare at night light. I have realized that I spend maximum time at home when it is morning, evening and night and not bright day.

My grey is with oak floor but the only way to assess if yours will work with your carpet and your level of lighting is to buy a few tester pots and try them out

FunMitFlags · 13/03/2015 12:20

I've used some Egyptian cotton this morning wanting it to look beigey-brown - the tester pot certainly did - and it looks grey. Perhaps it depends on the light. Confused

This picture is taken from my living room in Egyptian cotton with beige carpets through to oak floored hallway in potters clay 2 in daylight. (Excuse the half finished woodwork) so you can see the differences between the tones. Hope it helps.

Egyptian Cotton (have it in my kitchen and bathroom) is greige, more on the beige side.

I have Dulux Polished Pebble,a light silver grey,in living room, dining room and bedrooms. It looks light, soft and calm whatever the light.

We have farrow and ball manor house grey in our lounge and I love it, especially at night. I have dulux pebble mosaic in my hall and it looks fine with the beige carpet on the landing.

Another vote for F&B dovetale, which we've teamed with skimming stone for the ceiling. This is in our bedroom, we love it! Xxx

I've no idea why I saw fit to put three kisses there - am up to my eyes in children!

You all are so helpful. I have noted down all the colours mentioned here and will get the tester pots to try them. Already ordered shade cards/books and seen some at homebase this weekend.

We used dulux misty mountain. I had a wobble as it was going on but I adore it! I'll be recreating the colour scheme when we move house soon!
Room full of boxes right now so dragged these up.

Our sitting room is British Shorthair by Valspar, below the dado, and Timeless by Dulux above it. The lighter colour above the grey stops it being gloomy. I've put a big mirror on the wall facing the window too.

There's a picture of my lounge just after we finished painting it on this thread.

Love yours kits mummy, it looks so cosy and yours too doowhop it looks very elegant.

We have a lamp with a large orange shade from John Lewis, and as soon as it's on it gives a gorgeous glow to the grey and makes it very warm and cozy, making a million different shades of grey/white/cream/orange all over the room (dimmer lights on low).

You have lovely homes and you keep it so nice and tidy. Mine always have loads of little things above that fireplace!

I am quite keen for grey now :)
