Setting the table for estate agent's photos

Is it just me or is this really naff and off-putting?

There are a lot of good things about this house but I don't think I could bring myself to view it because of the staged table settings in the kitchen and roof terrace. Maybe the agents cajoled them in to it.

Can somebody link it on Zoopla, I want to be nosy and see the shoes but I'm on my phone and it will take me ages to find it!

I'm in Brighton, I quite like the house. I wish it wasn't so expensive here as we really want to move to somewhere a bit bigger but we brought our current place right at the wrong time. If only we'd brought 10 years earlier when we had the chance instead of being feckless and squandering our deposit on travel!

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/03/2015 21:43

Here you go Salty

SaltySeaBird · 09/03/2015 21:50

Ooh thank you, curiosity sated and I agree that is a very odd shot!

domesticslattern · 09/03/2015 21:53

Love it.
I'd move in. I could do with some new shoes and a banana.

fluffygreentail · 09/03/2015 22:31

I dont mind a bit of staging but I find set tables are usually present in shots for a new build home. This is a bit overdone and stunning apart from the garden.

morethanpotatoprints · 09/03/2015 22:38

Thanks for the link Grin
I wouldn't mind but it looks like the woman has 3 pairs of beige/cream shoes and how many black shoes does the man need? Grin

talkingofmichaelangelo · 09/03/2015 22:43

I think the estate agent's photographer just lugs those shoes around in a bin bag and tips them into whatever house he is photographing. He bought them all in Oxfam. The bananas also belong to him, are plastic, and on castors. The bed is rumpled because he had a quick nap in it. The table on the terrace actually has the glasses etc attached, they fold down, and the whole thing tucks into a little attache case. The fireplace is made of cardboard.

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 09/03/2015 22:51

You're all missing the most important point - its £650k AND THERE'S ONLY ONE LOO!

FizzyGood · 09/03/2015 22:58

Here's my new house, don't you just LOVE it?

Interesting - the house sold for £454k in Feb 2007. From the photos, the only thing that's been done in that time is the kitchen (the previous sale photos are showing on RM sold prices) . The last sale of a four bed house on the same street was in November for £70k less than the asking price of this one...

wowfudge · 09/03/2015 23:00

Oh Fizzy - you've not taken the photo at a drunken angle. You're fired as the EA's photographer!

FizzyGood · 09/03/2015 23:02

Ah but this is the bathroom.

That's more like it!

Thank you Dumbledores girl - thought I was going mad Smile

bamboostalks · 10/03/2015 06:30

Shoes gone from zoopla too. I didn't get to see them....can't face a day's work now.

TranquilityofSolitude · 10/03/2015 06:43

They weren't that interesting bamboo. Just a row of about 10 pairs of high-heeled shoes along a wall. They were obviously intended to convey some kind of message about the kind of person who lived there - to me it just said there wasn't sufficient storage space for shoes!

Bunbaker · 10/03/2015 07:02

"You're all missing the most important point - its £650k AND THERE'S ONLY ONE LOO!"

I had already spotted that. There is a house up for sale near me at the same price and it has five loos.

wowfudge · 10/03/2015 07:26

There is a downstairs loo in this house, under the stairs on the ground floor.

Bunbaker · 10/03/2015 07:29

It isn't very clear in the details. They would get many more viewers if they added that in the basic description.

thatsmadted · 10/03/2015 07:29

Love it, Fizzy!

I hope the shoes have gone because the agent had a change of heart and not because the seller is on Mumsnet. I'd feel bad for sneering although I think it's directed at the agent and not the owner. He's the one driving around Hove with a briefcase of bananas, a tablecloth and ten pairs of shoes.

Seriously though, the garden and kitchen really put me off. I dislike their choice of newspaper and don't see a Fairtrade logo on those bananas but I do accept that those are things that could be put right with a little effort Wink; the kichen and garden would be more difficult. Pity as the rest of the house is fab and the location perfect.

thatsmadted · 10/03/2015 07:30

Two loos is plenty. I really don't understand people who have en-suites off all their bedrooms.

MaybeDoctor · 10/03/2015 07:53

I did once meet an agent who drove around with a bread maker in his car...:)

Blackeyez09 · 10/03/2015 08:29

There is definitely a spy just not posting
Loving all the feedback you give it

Hove has always been expensive
I found it slightly nicer than Brighton when I studied there... big beautiful period houses and not as many students but yes they are all squashed in... There is something about the period houses in the coast though they all are rendered nicely and looked cared for!

I think still you can find very similar but cheaper places in neighbouring towns like Worthing where dp lives that still give you the access to Brighton and London
Really looking forward to finishing up here and moving back now

Ilovenannyplum · 10/03/2015 08:49

We're moving out of our rented flat in a couple of weeks, the letting agent came round to take the pictures last week.
Being the very mature and grown up individual that I am, I put one of DS's Peppa's or George's in each room somewhere prominent just because I could and because I was bored. People looking at the listing must think we're a family of Peppa Pig enthusiasts Grin

I didn't lay the table though Wink
