The budget is £80k-£100k, but could maybe stretch a bit for the right property. Would like 2 beds and a safe area not too far from the centre ie walking distance or near to good public transport links. There seem to be a number of 2 up 2 down on Zoopla etc from £55k upwards, but I have no idea what is a good place to buy. The house is intended for 2-3 years for a couple, no DC involved so schools not important.

All suggestions welcome!

Rigglin - I feel the same. I have tried to be completely honest with the OP based on my local knowledge. My grandparents grew up in Weaste, but I wouldn't want to live there now for example.

Yeah I've had to frequent most of the working mans clubs of Salford and Wigan (work related), Weaste wouldn't be a goer for me either Grin - although Weaste Con club / Moorlands club holds a good do!

I wondered if Swinton / Irlam oth heights / Salford 6 opposite The hospital might fit the bill. Transport would be the breaker here though.

Salford/Eccles near to Hope Hospital is walkable to the tram station in Eccles. I do think Stockport is an option worth the OP exploring too.

What about out towards Denton, or even if careful some of the areas of Gorton close to the Denton border? You would need to be careful what bit of Gorton, but both are on the A57 into town.

I know some people think north manchester isn't great but I believe it depends on which street you are living in, just like Salford. We recently put in an offer for a house in Blackley. Perhaps you want to have a look at this and this? They look rather modern and could perhaps save some money on renovation or even furniture if the owner decides to leave some behind.

Not sure if this is still available but it's good that it's near Rochdale Road?

Thanks young, that's very kind of you - I will go and look up these properties!

Yes Rigglinjigglin I'm well aware of ellesmere park as a good friend of mine lives there. But a) it's a small part of Eccles that is nice and b) it's way way way out of OP 's budget!

Interested in your comments re Hulme Datacolour
My daughter has recently started working at St Marys and wants to buy a property asap ideally within 30 min walk of hospital. Do you think Hulme would be safe at night for a young woman on her own (with the obvious precautions) she works some shifts til 9pm and others start early morning . At present she rents near Picadilly and often walks home late at night .
She has been a student in Manchester for 6 years and knows/loves the city (doesnt really want to live in studenty Fallowfield Probably cant afford Didsbury-shes not a Dr!) What areas/streets in Hulme should she be looking at ? Her budget is £120,000 for a two bed flat

Hello, i was looking for info on Beswick and came across this thread. We will be moving to Manchester this summer but i have no idea where. From what i have read and researched online everyone says south manchester. However it seems wide and i get lost once i get on rightmove. I have also read that prestwich is good and more affordable. However i see little or no info on east manchester. What is it like? We currently live in Netherlands, and have 3dd, 8, 7 and 3. I will probably be looking for a job but saved enough to pay for atleast 6months rent (depending on how much rent is). Kids are of school age so need area with good schools. And i guess i have become paranoid from watching lots of crime tv and law and order SVU, so looking for area with less crime rate. So good schools, good family area and close to the city. Please help!!!
