Living room flooring

Hi there,

Having just bought a new house I am after the collective wisdom of mumsnet to help guide me through flooring!

The living room carpet is horrendously stained, dirty and grubby. It has to go. I fancy wooden flooring. . .or laminate? Or....what would you guys recommend from experience? Looking at approximately 15m2 to cover.

chocolate you should be able to negotiate a deal if you walk into carpet right store. They always have a sale on too!

With carpet it isn't just warmth. A key factor in the decision to carpet the upstairs throughout was noise insulation - rockwool between floors (& some walls), Cloud 9 underlay and thick carpet. Houses with wood upstairs and young children are pure noise machines.

We sanded and varnished our wooden floors upstairs - it's definitely a bit noisier Grin! But I like my family, so it's nice to hear what they're up to Grin.
