Not doom but a question, and I would like to hear some opinions

I reckon by july

random the bigger house we hope to buy will be cheaper to run, but mortgage will be bigger. It's more a question of what interest rates will do in the next few years ( though I suppose we could try to find a long term fixed rate to future proof things a bit )

roneik · 29/12/2014 09:30

Random mess has halved her mortgage a good move I reckon. From Lowestoft right up to to the Humber you can buy houses in decent areas for a decent price. I do believe that a lot of people are moving to lincolnshire as the traffic has increased over the last year.I am also hearing more southern accents too.A five bed house in a decent area only a few miles from me ,30 years old aprox for 170k and it's been on for nearly a year now. That house will probably sell for offers 150k or less. Prices for 2/3 beds have stayed the same roughly for the 8 years I have lived in Lincolshire. You can pick up one for 70/80k in some parts. Some villages are priced more

Lowestoft is quite cheap too and it's a nice place to live. The only setback is the roads. No motorway just dual to the south east. 100 miles from the Dartford crossing. You can pick up 2 bedders in good area for 125k bit more for three.

I personally would downsize in either size or price if I were in the position of many.

ANewMe2015 · 29/12/2014 09:33

Wow. I'm not even London and you can't buy a flat for under 150 here. We'd have to move a heck of a long way to see those kind of prices.

roneik · 29/12/2014 09:35

Should read downsize in to cheaper area or size to reduce outgoings. The whole situation is very difficult to predict accurately. We may very well end up with a devaluation of the currency reducing spending power significantly

Here's one 4 bedder and there are many more

Realistically we couldn't have had 6 adults living in our previous tiny 3 bed mid terrace - our bills were exceptionally cheap there! Still considering adding solar power to the "new" house... if we had the perfect roof position I think I really would tbh.

JoanHickson · 29/12/2014 12:23

I think the problem with solar power is the good rates only went to those who installed years ago. I also understand there is a shelf life to them and they stop working to full capacity.

Damnautocorrect · 29/12/2014 12:49

Roneik,
you are absolutely spot on about the mini, the way the government allowed BMW to take the good bits (Land Rover & Mini) in the rover take over and bin off the rest was disgusting. The Range Rover sport was already in the pipe line, the original mini was mostly rover designed, imagine how those cars would have changed the british economy had they still had UK ownership.
I remember the enquiry at the time, the uproar. It all went pretty quiet, pretty quick.

I never understand why they don't add solar panels to every new build, i read a report that said the reason is they would 'only' solve 50% of our energy problems. Well 50% sounds a pretty good chunk to me!!!

Oh and my housing bubble is still alive and well where i am, there has just been a bidding war over a 1 bed flat for 220k. I don't know what it achieved in the end but it was all over within a week with a gang of purchasers. We rent and don't receive benefits so are in big trouble. We should inherit from our families, but we will need to use that to live on so that will leave nothing for my children. So i am considering asking the respective grandparents to leave it to the children instead, yes we will be fucked but at least they will stand a chance and it won't be frittered away on existing.

roneik · 29/12/2014 14:28

Damnautocorrect, yes only the other week the new mini overtook the amount of old minis built. I think the current one has achieved 2 million built so far.
The government at the time of Ford closing car production in Dagenham, only had to insist that the same compensation be paid as the French and Germans paid to the workers and it would probably still be building cars.
Even if it hadn't turned out we kept production , it would have been a fair way to decide for British workers

They had the same productivity at that point and quality product.
I don't know if it was because of brown envelopes but it was a shambles to let a plant making the UKs best selling car go so easily. Not even a whimper from those we pay and elect to run our country for our benefit
That is Government in action in the Uk, same old

^^ is terrifying.......................

Ex Local authority with barred up windows. Can anyone justify the £420k...if I was raised here I would have considered it a slum....could it get any worse that this unless you were in an emergency B&B hostel or on the streets?

But now at x3 salary you would need to be earning £140k/year to buy this.

Junglen · 03/01/2015 14:25

wow, that is a scary price for such a hovel.

roneik · 03/01/2015 14:53

Marvel Estates are proud to offer you this wonderful 3 bedroom maisonette in the blurb

It is a thing of beauty ,a wondrous eye watering experience just to lick the cold steel bars on the windows.

The upper floors make for sanctuary from the state media propaganda, but only if you keep the telly long enough from the burglars, as there are no bars on the upper windows.
It comes so well equipped and wondrous that there are no internal piccies

The last 2 governments should be ashamed, so should all the dim wit landlords and speculators that think they are clever in participating in a ponzi scheme. Aided and abetted by troughers and the bankers

Or maybe the area is one of the first that to display any goods or chattel is a no no. Maybe nothing is safe in that area from the have not and never will
haves.
End game if this madness doesn't stop soon, is nothing and nobody will be safe

The raised over ground railway up against your window would be interesting - and from the photo you can see that the compulsory £1200 service charge has been carefully invested....

roneik · 03/01/2015 17:05

16% less sales in October 15% less value compared October 2013
For somebody who claims to be passionate about property you are either too lazy to surf or having a giraffe.
Who in their right mind would choose a time like this to become a estate agent?

Estate agent branches mushroom in a good market they close at a rate you cant keep count in an downturn

Don't try to tell me different because I have lived through crashes.
The way it's gathering speed you will soon see the odd one close and then umpteen boarded up

ronelk is just bitter because he jumped 7 years too soon - he sold up in SE in 2008 and moved to lincolnshire --

since then he has watched his lincolnshire property plummet and then stagnate whilst the one he sold in the SE has soared......so he timed his departure v v v badly and has 7 years of festering bitterness to spray about with those on MN as the gap between what assets he could have had and what he is left with continues to widen....

roneik · 03/01/2015 17:44

Actually I sold in 2007 before the crisis

I have a house that many would give their right arm for
It cost me the price of two top of the range minis
I have a top the range mini
I have the money to buy more top of the range minis

I didn't and don't want more houses , I have one and as much as you may differ you cant live in more than one at any time

I knew you were another VI that's why I told you to get your own info

Well your time has almost gone because no matter what you post it wont make any difference to the outcome
It's over and

roneik · 03/01/2015 18:24

My mini has grunt loads of it, I have nicknamed it roadrunner. I have one cant you readGrin
I know I am of superior stuffGrin but even I cannot drive more than one. I just used the mini illustration to get over I bought a cheap house
I dont want this government spending it if I go ga ga and end up being spoon fed jelly by a chav in a tracksuit. So a cheapie house will do me.
I know I am a cheapskate and several ex wives will confirm such . They did not get all the gold thoughGrin
