Dream house has come up for sale!!

My dream house has come up for sale. Been to see it and am seriously in love. We are in a good position as ours is under offer etc

Only problem is that DH is away with work (abroad) for another 2.5 weeks.
I've sent him the details and he wants to view before making an offer. Argh.

House is beyond stunning. It's even been in an interiors magazine. I think they've had lots of viewings and I think it will sell quickly.

I am literally beside myself. What do I do?? Do I talk to agent and explain about DH and that if he likes it then we will be offering?
I've tried to persuade DH but he doesn't feel ok with offering until he has seen it.

Any advice please??

I'm about to move into a house that my husband has only seen on the internet. I put in an offer and had it accepted without him seeing it. The first time he will set foot in the house will be the day we move in. He trusts me.
Not sure that I'd recommend this to everyone though!

Mmeh · 28/10/2014 07:35

Are you sure the property that anewme linked to needs 500k of work?!? Shock

You could build the house for that! I admit it looks tired and outdated but I can't imagine a complete refurb even with top of the range (Smallbone etc) furniture and features installed would be much more than half that.... Or are builders in London earning bankers salarys now?

Mmeh · 28/10/2014 07:36

(I mean, it's hardly derelict is it...!)

curiousgeorgie · 28/10/2014 08:01

The Elm road one is far nicer, all the wood in your dream house would put me right off..

But as you love it, I second (third, fourth, fifth) speaking to the agent, saying how interested you are and booking a viewing for when DH is back, asking them to keep you informed of any developments.

Beckylw · 28/10/2014 08:20

Must have been for sale for a while, reduced from £2m to £1.9m and also on with 2 agents on zoopla.

Booboostoo · 28/10/2014 09:27

OK I am re-decorating for you OP! The main living room needs re-painting, the white is too stark. Look at the Paper and Stone Library colours, they are fantastic.

MonsoonInBelize · 28/10/2014 09:50

I'm thoroughly enjoying this thread and looking at all these houses!

I'm in a rural home counties area so £2m would buy you a big farmhouse and a bit of land.

To the poster who said very few people would have £2m to spend on a house, I think you'll find that's not the case.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 28/10/2014 13:04

I recognise that kitchen, I think it's a Higham one. And I am pretty sure they told me the owner was a MNetter Grin

It's been removed from Rightmove though, has it already sold?

NoveltySlippers · 28/10/2014 13:12

I'm very happy for the OP she's found a house she loves (and for what it's worth I like the panelling!).

Anyone else reading this and feeling a bit Tiny Tim though? Confused

I live in the north and I'm too embarrassed to say how much our house is worth but it's definitely the wrong side of £100k - put it that way.

Guess it would buy a garage in Beckenham...? Grin

lazydog · 28/10/2014 16:42

"No longer on the market" Confused Poor OP! Sad

The Elm Rd one was far nicer, IMHO, anyway.

MonsoonInBelize · 28/10/2014 16:45

Hope it didn't have anything to do with this thread? Confused

TeaAndALemonTart · 28/10/2014 16:48

Where's it gone?!

specialone · 28/10/2014 16:55

(Weeps). It's sold. The buyer asked to have it removed from all website as condition of their offer. I spoke to the agent this afternoon begging to put an offer in. (Cries bitter tears)

It was only on the market for 2 weeks

When I looked around the agent said that while it was on at £2m the actual price was £1.9m. This was done so when it sold it was proven to be under the "mansion tax" limit of labour got in. Apparently "everyone" is doing it.

Been to see Elm Rd. It's smaller and over 4 floors. It may have a new roof but internally it needs tons doing. Didn't like it. It was a very top heavy house. Lots of bedrooms but not great living space.

It was my dream house. Damn DH work and all the travel.

I feel down. But need to get back out looking because ours is sold and we will end up in rented if I don't get my skates on.
Going to see the one for £1.99m with all the damp patches tomorrow.

burnishedsilver · 28/10/2014 16:59

So sorry to hear that. It was lovely but it wasn't the one for you. In the short them renting might not be a bad thing.

burnishedsilver · 28/10/2014 17:03

As for dh, work and all the travel.....If he was a 9 to 5er the dream house wouldn't be in your price bracket.

The right house hasn't come on the market yet. Hang tight.

ATombWithoutAFoof · 28/10/2014 17:10

There are some very ugly windows on that 7 bedroom one. Can I ask how big your family is, OP?

The Zoopla one is showing as under offer.

Jbck · 28/10/2014 17:19

OP did you manage to persuade DH as it as been removed? Hope it worked out for you.

RandomFriend · 28/10/2014 17:22

So sorry to hear that you didn't get it. I can identify with those feelings of just missing a dream house.

PossumPoo · 28/10/2014 17:32

Oh no special! Have followed this thread with interest. I think you dodged a bullet there. All that money, a fair way out of London and not even detached? Shock

When you do find the right one you'll be glad your DH wasn't able to view. Have a Wine tonight and get back on rightmove.

And good luck!

specialone · 28/10/2014 17:47

Myself DH and two small DC and not planning any more so 4/5 bedrooms would be ideal. And lots of living space rather than lots bedrooms that we don't use (and I have to clean!)

Burnished. Smile. You're correct.
Oh well someone else must have liked it as much as me.

Perhaps their sale will fall through or they won't get their mortgage ? (Evil).

It's a shame. I'm not one to fall in love (houses or otherwise) but I really did love it.

The one opposite Waitrose for £1.8m does need close to £500k spent. New roof (and some beams as they were rotten), full rewire, full replumb. Every single window needs taken out and refurbed (all 26 of them at £3k per window). And you need 5000sqft of flooring/carpets. New central heating system and most of the radiators need replacing. That's before you've eben looked at a kitchen and several bathrooms. There is also rising damp according to the builder we took around the second time. It probably wouldnt even pass a survey for a mortgage. So you could save and do it for £400k but that's still out of our range. Unless a cheeky offer was made.

I think you've had a lucky escape special, but appreciate that you won't feel that way and my opinion counts for nothing anyway.

FWIW we both got desperate for our last two house moves and ended up in short term rented for four months, which was a pain and cost double removals Angry as well as all the upheavals.

We've also had two purchases fall through as well, neither our fault.

Every single time it all worked out for the best and despite the upset at the time, we've thanked our lucky stars.

There's an old saying about 'what's for you won't pass you by' and it generally turns out to be true, whether because you get what you want in the end, or whether you get something much better

cerealqueen · 28/10/2014 20:16

beams and panelling

sillymillyb · 28/10/2014 20:45

Ooh I prefer that one cereal - op, I'm sorry you didn't get your house. It's true what everyone is saying though - it just means it wasn't the one for you, and your new one will be even nicer (like the one cereal has linked to!)

Philoslothy · 28/10/2014 20:47

I prefer cereal's house too

vestandknickers · 28/10/2014 21:13

I really don't like Cereal's house.

Far too Footballers Wives for me!
