Dream house has come up for sale!!

My dream house has come up for sale. Been to see it and am seriously in love. We are in a good position as ours is under offer etc

Only problem is that DH is away with work (abroad) for another 2.5 weeks.
I've sent him the details and he wants to view before making an offer. Argh.

House is beyond stunning. It's even been in an interiors magazine. I think they've had lots of viewings and I think it will sell quickly.

I am literally beside myself. What do I do?? Do I talk to agent and explain about DH and that if he likes it then we will be offering?
I've tried to persuade DH but he doesn't feel ok with offering until he has seen it.

Any advice please??

If I had the money (we don't, but don't live in London, thank god) then I would be making an offer based on picture 9.

OP - could you tell the agent that you are really, really interested, but need DH to see it, and ask them to keep you up to date with any offers?

burnishedsilver · 26/10/2014 00:45

How far away is he? If you're that keen perhaps he could come back for a day.

cerealqueen · 26/10/2014 00:45

Nice house. But there are loads of lovely houses in Beckenham. You both have to see it and love it to spend that amount and get that feeling.
From a Beckenhamer.

specialone · 26/10/2014 00:45

Desert runner. Very good idea. Gardens front and rear are totally private. No joint roof repairs as the various pitches of the house are completely separate and no parts of roof overhangs so to speak.

I hung around after viewing and got to speak to one neighbour. She was lovely and told me lots about the area and other neighbours. But will check out the rest.

The apartments next door. Well only 1 of them has walls adjoining the house. The other 3 are away from it so it's only one neighbour so to speak. I asked about that before viewing.

I would obv want all certificates etc.

Our current garden is North facing so east will be an improvement Smile but I do see what you mean.

River land. Those are fab ideas!! Thanks so much.

I feel calmer now you're all saying it won't go that quickly. It's hard to be objective.

DH says have you looked at beckenham place park? He says that's lovely? He used to live in Bromley

specialone · 26/10/2014 00:51

Burnished. He is 12 hours flight away.

Cereal. I've seen quite a few nice ones in Beckenham but none as nice or as well done or laid out as this one.

Yoni. I see now. I could do that if DH would do it.

Stealth. I think I will have to view again and telltne agent I am really interested and to keep me updated until DH returns.
Btw what do you mean about making the offer based on pic 9?

Desert. We've looked at the whole of Beckenham. There is an amazing house for sale near Beckenham Place park but it's £3.2m so too expensive for us sadly. It also needs an amazing amount spent on it.

We've also looked on Manor way and over towards Langley.

Alpaca. Grin. You're making me feel better. Thanks.

I know this isn't AIBU but you are being a bit unreasonable wanting to make an offer on something going for nearly £2m without your DH having seen it

For what it's worth I think you could get better in the suburbs for that - bedrooms all close together and it's basically part of a block with other homes attached.

Desertrunner · 26/10/2014 00:58

Keston park? Gated and private?

specialone · 26/10/2014 01:01

Ah yes but the period features. You don't get any of that in Keston. Boring new builds or 1930s which have had the soul ripped out of them. The wood panelled lounge has nearly 4.5m to the ceiling. Smile

It's very private. It's on a private road (ownership of road comes with house) and only a few households nearby.
And less then 5 mins walk from Kelsey pk and Beckenham High St.

Smelly. I know but I'm obv not going to make an offer as DH wants me to wait. Just wanted MNer to tell me to calm down really.

And I've had some fab suggestions re house. And DH.

Need to tell him to hurry up and get home.

And before you all say it I am quite smitten with this house.

OP posts:
Desertrunner · 26/10/2014 01:05

Bickley? Says DH.

Desertrunner · 26/10/2014 01:07

I can see you are smitten! And there's nothing wrong with that. If it's what you really want and DH likes it I hope you get it. But please do your research first Grin

specialone · 26/10/2014 01:11

When we first started looking in June we looked at Bickely, Keston, Chistlehurst and Bronley.

Bickley seemed a bit In between Bronley and CHurst. Neither one thing nor the other so to speak. Keston is very leafy but the houses are not my cup of tea. Besides Keston is so expensive we would have to buy the smallest house there I think.

Did like CHurst but not as much as Beckenham. The train connections were much better for DH. And High St is great as the parks etc. obv it's suburban in some ways but that's why we are
Moving further out (or in the process of).

Desert. Oh we will. DH is ultra practical about everything in general.

As I said the photos don't actually do the house justice in any way at all. It's much better in the flesh so to speak. Don't think I've ever seen anythingn quite like it.

OP posts:
Riverland · 26/10/2014 01:16

Maybe your DH would like it if you drew up a list of all the pros and cons of the property.

Objective, factual. Pitch it to him!

Desertrunner · 26/10/2014 01:24

Just looked at the photos again.
There is definitely a face in the wall of photo 7. And the house, as well as being semi-detached is also an odd mish-mash of styles from the ultra modern 'done' kitchen and bathrooms to the traditional panelled rooms. I don't think it will sell that fast tbh as it won't appeal to everyone who views it so I wouldn't panic about losing it.
I'd have a 2nd viewing yourself, with a friend maybe for another opinion before DH gets back, book a 3rd viewing for his return and in the meantime make it clear to the agent that you are interested.
Good luck!

specialone · 26/10/2014 01:26

Riverland. DH likes the photos etc. he hasn't liked anything else we've seen so far. He is fussy. I am desperate for him to see it and love it. In fact like it would be ok.

Philoskothy. Went to see that one in June/July. It's tiny! The main house is less than 2000 sqft and the rest is made up of an old garage that they stuck a kitchen in. It also badly needs refurbishing. And not just a paint job, new kitchen and bathrooms. It also need rewire by the looks of the fuse box. Or at least that was DHs opinion.

OP posts:
Philoslothy · 26/10/2014 01:32

Which one is tiny? None of those houses look tiny to me?

specialone · 26/10/2014 01:34

Philoslothy. Not been to see that one. Very busy road although it is almost opposite Waitrose and station.

Desert. Funny about the face in the wall Grin
Yes it's semi detached. Our current one is a terrace and sold for £2.3m.
Didn't percieve at as a mishmash. Far from it. The kitchen is a solid wood shaker style with marble worktops so quite classic. House has a lot of period features but it seemed that all the materials/things put in were too quality classics which blended well with the house.
Their owners furniture in the lounge was very modern. Not my sort of thing but it look great in there.

specialone · 26/10/2014 01:34

Ah sorry. The one you said was next door. It's down the road and close to it.
