Can you put me off this house?

I'm a closet RightMove addict, there I've said it. Every so often I'll look at the places I want to live, just in case.
I've found a fab house.
Every so often I check and it's still there. It's been there for months. No one else has bought it ( and no one else wants it....Hmm) I love it.

We're planning to move but not for ayear or two, not really in a position to right now. So I need your help..... Put me off this house!!

The catflap next to the hall cupboard is for the Roomba iRobot vacuum to come and go through, all by itself. That's where the vacuum cleaner lives!

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 27/08/2014 18:45

Handles in the kitchen will catch on your clothing.
Oven looks a bit small.
Stone-built so might be freezing in winter.

Nope. That's me done.

Any clues about why it hasn't sold?

unrealhousewife · 27/08/2014 18:48

Look at the map on sat view. There is a river dyke which stops just upstream of the house. I reckon there is a flooding risk which will affect insurance etc. You would need to go and check it.

ladybirdandsnails · 27/08/2014 18:58

Proximity to river will definately hike insurance. IME they ask if water way is within half a mile etc

Devora · 27/08/2014 19:09

It's a really nice house. Sorry.

Dropdeadfred2 · 27/08/2014 19:27

garden overlooked ...only one bathroom...not sure of room layout our storage...is nice though Wink

sandgrown · 27/08/2014 19:32

I love Holmfirth and would love to move back to that area so hard to put you off. Also Huddersfield (nearest big town) voted one of the top ten places to live in UK .

ouryve · 27/08/2014 19:36

No idea about the location. if that's OK, then the only thing that would put me off is being way out of our price range.

Pipbin · 27/08/2014 19:58

Go and view it report back.
I need to know about the cat flap in the hall.

Tobermory · 27/08/2014 19:58

Hmmm, ok ladies, thanks for the efforts this far.
Fruit loopy bwins this prize so far, utility room...storage might have to be the reason.
I've been quite perplexed by lack of floor plan.... An oversight or the reason it's not sold?

We're rural anyway and not that far from Holmfirth but it's definitely at the top of my list of where I want to live.

I will admit to having had a slow drive by, even made Mr Tobermory come too, though obviously didn't tell him why we were driving slowly until we were level wih the house!!!!

I'm going to have to go and look aren't i? Maybe I'll hate it? Hmm

Who noticed the 'cat flap'?
I've lost count of the number of times I've looked at those pictures and never noticed that...whatever it is.

Maybe I'm not enamoured by the garden.

Tinkly, I'm glad we're not coveting the same house!

Link!!

Boring bushes by front door.....?

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 27/08/2014 20:11

OK - Be honest.

How many MNers checked picture 11 to ensure the alphabet was in correct order??

The house is fantastic - I wish I had such taste and style.

MamadotheBUMP · 27/08/2014 20:12

Small garden overlooked by too many windows. Put me right off. Nice house wrong location.

Go view it! You might hate it??

Nancery · 27/08/2014 20:14

OP, I could have written your post!
We accidentally did the same and ended up going to look. It didn't put us off and we managed to work out our maximum offer and they accepted! We still can't do anything immediately though, it depends on my mother selling hers (and moving to our current one, giving us the deposit as one lump sum of rent.)
My advice would be to see it, then, if you can, get to know the vendors and see if you can work something out. Our vendors want their old family home to go to someone who will also love it (we are a big like that too) and, so far, things are looking good (but not counting chickens yet!)

GlaceDragonflies · 27/08/2014 20:16
  1. You will get teased and called Nora Batty.
  2. Anything could be lurking behind the door in photo 3.
  3. The family bathroom is tiny

It's a lovely house though...

C0smos · 27/08/2014 20:17

There is a pink splash back in the kitchen and the current owners are too lazy to hang a picture - imagine what other home maintenance they haven't bothered doing the slatterns

Polonium · 27/08/2014 20:21

The gardens surrounding it are at a higher level. Much higher. All that surface water looking to run off. It will be a nightmare.

amistillsexy · 27/08/2014 20:24

It's a really busy road.

The white downstairs will need repainting within weeks days if your family's anything like mine!

And the flowery bedrooms will need redecorating straight away!

That bathroom will be freezing in winter (especially in Holmfirth!).

It will take forever to get anywhere. If you work in Huddersfield, you'll spend most of the morning in a traffic jam. If you work anywhere else, you'll have to set off for work before you get home of an evening.

The local schools are probably all over-subscribed and you'll maybe end up being offered places in some horrible area miles away.

The garden's horrible.

The kitchen's not in keeping with the house.

They've painted over the wooden panelling in the hallway, and you'll always live with the guilt of not being bothered to restore it back to wood.

Ermmm...but it does look lovely.

I did the same as you, OP. Fell in love with this house (linking as it's quite close to yours and you might like it!) about three years ago on right move, then saw it again a few months ago (still on market, with another agent). I went to look round, prepared to buy on the spot, but fell out of love...it just didn't do it for me in the flesh.

Maybe you should go and look round your house - it will at least put your mind at rest!

Pipbin · 27/08/2014 20:30

I've been quite perplexed by lack of floor plan.... An oversight or the reason it's not sold?

I sold with my local branch of EA. They don't tend to do floor plans for some reason.

I noticed the cat flap. Grin

Landscaped gardens?!? - was Stevie Wonder the contractor?

? flood risk/garden NE facing? generally dank garden

Where is the boiler?

Busy-looking road

They've done the white/blank canvas with pops of colour/interesting shapes thing quite well downstairs though it would look better if it weren't laminate flooring.

FlossyMoo · 27/08/2014 20:43

amis That is the house me and DH love and would buy should we win the lottery Grin

burnishedsilver · 27/08/2014 21:07

The Barbie splashback would have to go.

jalopy · 27/08/2014 21:36

The washing line is a deal breaker.
