Hey all, just wondered how you would feel about buying a house like this?

I am rather keen, but could do with some opinions if you don't mind.
Thanks :)

After calling 3 different brokers I found one who would give us a mortgage. Then the EA said they have cash buyers lined up to view and the place is leasehold too. So it all feels a bit futile. :(

My house is all timber, with a metal roof. Yes about the maintenance, in our case, termite proofing, too.

Ours is a timber framed house with a brick skin. Warm in winter, cool in summer, generally very sturdy! Our extension this year is brick and breeze-block and is freezing by comparison. Our estate was a Barratts experiment 30 years ago.

No issues getting a mortgage though.

Quint. I've had a few timber framed houses. I wasn't saying you couldn't hang things on the walls, it's just that it's more of a nuisance working out where the studs are rather than being able to drill into masonry. It's not such a problem for shelves and pictures but if is if you are installing things like kitchen cabinets. (I speak from experience Wink )

Also, the timberframed houses we have had have needed no more maintenance than normal houses. Our houses were timber framed with brick cladding. Rather than being constructed entirely out of wood.

Ah, I meant houses that are wholly timber, with wood cladding.

EthicalPickle · 30/07/2014 23:18

It's an interesting house, it looks very stylish and had a fab view. I like the fact it's detached. The bedrooms are pretty small, are they really doubles?? Confused I had a look at similar properties in the area for a similar price - it's very hard to compare them Confused. They are so different.

I think I would prefer something a bit boring and traditional like THIS but I don't know the area so it could be a daft choice.

Hopefully something else will come along. Smile

Totally gorgeous house. I love houses like that. Grin

jennieflower · 30/07/2014 23:30

That house looks familiar, was it featured on Grand designs a few years back? Is there a bathtub under a bed somewhere?

QuintessentiallyQS · 30/07/2014 23:46

(This is my dream house , and this flat as a close [[http://www.finn.no/finn/realestate/homes/object?finnkode=48155942&searchclickthrough=true runner-up) to go off topic! sorry Blush )

Aah I thought it was that one. It is a lovely area round there. Much nicer location than the one EP linked to. Nature reserve across the street and a kids playground 5 minutes walk away next to some playing fields.

Maybe it will work out? Cash buyers might not be interested, etc.

KitschinSynch · 31/07/2014 07:08

Yes it is lovely, bedrooms are a bit small but I had a Masterplan. The fact it was under £500k was a bonus too. I really loved the fact that it was a detached little oasis of loveliness.

So beautiful!!

zoemaguire · 31/07/2014 07:29

Oh wow, I love it. Would buy in a flash. (Don't worry we live 100 miles away:))

KitschinSynch · 31/07/2014 07:44

Well Zoe - it appears that you would need £1/2 m in cash! I will have to see if I can recreate the ambience in a 2 bed Victorian terrace flat!

Ohhh, I know the one too!! Looked at another on the same site just before yours came to market. Photos of yours look amazing. Best of luck op! We love the area but off the cards unfortunately.

Regressionconfession · 31/07/2014 08:26

... just saw your latest post. Sorry op. The market is very disheartening. Maybe worth you viewing the other one on complex? Might not get as much intetest given it needs updating? Can't see it going for more than the one you posted either (the discrepency in valuation made me laugh).

Regressionconfession · 31/07/2014 08:30

Where's Mintyy?

KitschinSynch · 31/07/2014 08:45

That other house isn't on there anymore - weird it was on for t so much more! The problems would be the same though - unmortgageable.

zoemaguire · 31/07/2014 11:14

Sorry you missed out! I've looked in my purse, but I don't seem to have enough in cash either.

KitschinSynch · 31/07/2014 18:33

I wonder if I could try and crowd-fund it!
Oh well never mind - back to the real world.
Thanks everyone for your support Thanks
